Scott, Having thrown a blade when I had gas engines back in 2004 and having cracked a blade last summer I am convinced that new is the way to go. Its expensive, but with used props you never know what you have. BTW, My last set of 3 blades when I had gas engines were 20x18 with a light cup (aka #5). With a bimini top and no enclosure I would cruise at 3K-3100rpms at 19-20 knots. Top-end was 28 knots at 4K rpms.

A guy is out on a date with his girlfriend. The car breaks down.....determined to prove his manlyhood he told her "stay right here, I'll take care of this". Not being very mechanical, he got out of the car and said to himself "how in the world am I ever going to get this thing going ?" He opened the hood, looked down at the engine and said.......see below.. "Holy crap, I didn't know that I had a propeller" Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

Yes new is better, I agree. On that same note, paid for is better as well. The engines are old, gears old, shafts old, we'll use reconn props for now.

I here you. I know there are plenty of guys who have never had issues. Personally, having had issues with 2 sets of recon'd props myself (one with the gas the other with diesel), and knowing Bill Dunlop had issues with recons (with his diesels), I'll never do it again.
