When I pulled my deck up to repair the core it really wasn't that hard a job once I got the caulking out. When I put the deck back in I didn't use 5200. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

3M makes a nice pliable caulking for seams, its in a purple and white tube. Flexible, UV and mildew resistant. Do not use 5200, you'll have a nightmare getting the deck out next time. Bill 1989 33 FBC Cummins 330B > ~-------

Exactly right. DON'T use 5200. Mine was 5200 in the first time I pulled it up. I assumed at some point I'd have to pull it up again. I think the ladder is the biggest pain. Get 3 of your friend to help lift it up straight up and carry it off the boat. Just a time consuming PITA. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

There is a reason that they say 5200 is for "permanent" applications. Bill 1989 33 FBC Cummins 330B > ~-------

I cut an access port in the "floor" of the side storage areas to access the forward end of the muffler. I can tighten clamps and I fixed a hole in the muffler itself probably caused by over tightening hose clamps. It is useful access point. I installed a plastic deck plate fitting so nothing goes down the hole.

ron do you have any pictures that you can email me to see just where you cut that hole at so it may save me from having to remove the cockpit. I would be SUPER happy with that. Thanx Peter.. my email is usk9@earthlink.net

Peter, A previous owner had cut a 12" x 5" hole (approx)in the floor of one of my cockpit side lockers to access the hose clamps just like Ron did. They sealed it back up with a 1/4" piece of starboard over it. Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Yanmar 370's Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

The family is doing great! It will be much easier with the deck off and I'd go with 2 T-Bolt clamps on front and back of each muffler, just don't overtighten and crack the fiberglass. Send some of your warm temperatures North! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Yanmar 370's Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Hey Brian.....was looking through some old Bertram pictures and came across pictures I took of NSN while she was in PP's shed. Pics of engine room, underneath, and more. If you don't have enough of you own let me know, I'll send'em along. ....One of these days I'd like to take a ride in your "new" NSN. I'm still in the same spot at PP. I too just unscrewed bridge ladder, screws around cockpit deck, and spent another few hours cutting out sealer around seam, to remove cockpit deck. I'm in the process of replacing my fuel tank. Marina in Branford is still working on several Berts (seems mostly 31's) replacing gas fuel tanks and/or gas engines. This ethanol-gas realy seems to be quit problem. Glad to hear you and family and NSN are all doing well...have agreat summmer. Ken

Ken, I'll take the pictures off your hands sometime for historical perspective. I'd be happy to take you for a ride this summer too. I'm still at Guildford Yacht Club. Are you still doing the inside storage in Branford each winter? How reasonable is the cost? I'm sure it is very convenient.
