I mount my 8 hp outboard behind the ladder. The bracket is mounted on studs which penetrate the side panel. When you remove the panel you see two wood mounting boards that are fastened to the fiberglass sides. Bolts come through these boards for mounting the bracket Very stable arrangement.

Justin, Mine is mounted on the bulkhead behind the ladder. The bracket is angled to one side so I can fit the engine and the bracket itself is supported by a thick block of sandwiched starboard and through bolted to the bulkhead.

Thank you Doug, Yes that is just about what I have in mind. I am going to mount a board across the opening to give the bracket support This will allow the motor to stand upright ( it would be facing the port side.)Just behind the ladder. One more project.. to add to the list.
