I have been having trouble replying to the forum but thought I would try again with an update. The old engines are out and gone. I sold them as parts on EBay. New engines are here but not yet installed. I am redoing the engine room and am ready to paint but the weather shut me down. I am replacing shafts and shaft seals, 1-1/2" aquamet 22. Not sure yet if I have to move the engine mounts. Those of you who have installed the Merc 8.1, I notice that the fuel cell sits just above and forward of the starbd front mount. Looks like it will hit the outboard stringer. Any one dealt with this problem?

Bob, I dont think anyone here has installed the 8.1 engines yet it looks like you and i will be the first on this forum .Why did you choose the merc over crusader? since you bought new shafts i am assuming that you are not moving the engines back to meet where the old shafts met the engine.you should join the discussions under repower on convertible forum. My install will be a little different since i have an 81 fbc. also are you keeping the same struts and are you sure the 1.5"shafts will fit?
