No engines yet but he is telling me he'll be done by 20th, we'll see? Sent batch of pictures and first half of draft article. Feedback was very positive and he said keep going! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Brian, Sorry to hear about the delay, but trust me, you're not missing anything ! Stay on them, they've had the boat for >6 months which to me, puts their service in the extremely poor category. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

Oh yea, in Eddy's defense, he is way behind but he is worth waiting for. Why do you suppose he has so many people in line (literally) to use him for repower work? I would expect most shops are not exactly on schedule on stuff like this and I would much rather he do a great job a week late than need to see him over and over to fix loose ends. Mine is two weeks late but you can see why - it is friggin perfect. Hang in Brian, you will have his undivided attenion next week and I still say he will rip through yours in no time.

It's been a busy winter/spring for me as I've taken advantage of the inside storage to tackle a number of projects: Where should I start? 1. Urethaned engine room, two coats white, bring your sunglasses. 2. Urethaned forward bilge. 3. Urethaned back half of water tank compartment, front half still to be done. 4. Urethaned behind new exhaust mufflers, generator bilge to be done. 5. Urethaned two storage closets on port side of salon. 6. Replaced almost every Aluminum & rubber wire clamp with Stainless & rubber wire clamp throughout boat. 7. Installed 4 additional 12V engine room lights on four outboard side walls. 8. Installed all new Heavy Duty blower/air intake vent hoses (black)all the way around. 9. Installed new Charles 30 Amp battery charger (yard said original version runs constant charge which shortens battery life?) 10. Installed new Garelick (cockpit style) steps for accessing into engine room. 11. Replaced plywood base (wet & rotting) under batteries with fiberboard and glassed in. 12. Replaced Garboard drain plug in engine room. 13. Installed new Garboard drain plug in forward bilge. 14. Installed 3 new 110V outlets. One on aft Port Salon wall, one on starboard aft wall above countertop and one in rope locker in starboard aft salon. 15. Replaced plywood floor under water tank with fiberboard and glassed in place. 16. Replacing all thru hulls with Groco Full Flow Valves (Perko's are not full flow valves). 17. Installing starboard blocking under all new thru hulls. 18. Installing new Conbraco 90 degree thru hull fittings for bilge pumps. 19. Adding Rule 3700 gallon pump in aft bilge for emergencies (currently has Rule 2000, so will have two). 20. Adding Rule 500 gallon pump in engine room on bracket to suck up minimal bilge water (currently has Rule 2000 only). 21. Adding Rule 3700 gallon pump into water tank/holding tank compartment (currently none, but maintaining Rule 2000 in forward bilge. 22. Replacing holding tank floor board with lower profile and adding a new 25 gallon (increase of 35%+ capcity) holding tank (eventually converting to VacuFlush System). 23. Installing new FX-1 AC control unit (soon). 24. Installing new water tank, probably going to 90 gallon which I'll run head off of too. 25. Installing 3 new Perko hull vents for fuel, holding tank and head vent loop. 26. Powercoated dash and Bertram logo side plates (at bridge connections) in a gloss black. 27. Powdercoated bridge, side and cockpit grab rails, plus all new bilge thru hulls, all in white again. 28. Increasing rear air scoop vent hose size from 4" to 5" to increase engine room air. 29. Installed new 17" flat screen on starboard aft salon wall. 30. Engraved stainless bridge switch panels. 31. Installing two new Bomar Stainless portlights. 32. Painted bottom, two coats. 33. Compounded and waxed one side, other side tight to the wall [:(] 34. Installing new engine room thru hulls with emergency crash set up...dual outlet Groco units...very nice. Some things still on to do list are: 1. Install bow pulpit and windlass. 2. Install 2 new thru hull hawse pipes through transom above cleats, but on the stern. 3. Install flat screen in V-Berth. 4. Install new engine room bulkhead sound insulation. 5. Install new carpeting. 6. Install new 1" mini-wood blinds? 7. Replace one fluorescent light in salon. 8. Have Fireboy units inspected? 9. Hook up new rear cockpit shower water supply lines. 10. Install two new rear cockpit wall storage access doors. 11. Install two cockpit vertical side panel access doors. 12. Install new water tank gauge. 13. All new bilge pump hoses. 14. Going to try to convert head hoses to PVC into holding tank? Now you know why my wife and kids haven't seen much of me on the weekends and the budgets out the window for the miscellaneous stuff! The payoff will be when we're boating and not working on projects at the dock though. I still have to send pictures for David to post of the different stages for both George's and my repower. Soon! Now if JBW finishes installing the engines, I'll be in good shape! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Brian, I can't even type that much let alone get that all done in one winter. Since you live in NJ, what did you do? Get an apartment for the winter? You have my admiration. You not only know how to write checks, you're also not afraid to get down'n'dirty. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Sounds great Brian! What engine room lights did you use? My engine light bulb went and i had to break the thick glass dome to try to get it off so i have to replace it and the only one i can find that is suitable for the engine room is this one. http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=16298F

Brian, You make me sick! I wish I had the time and money to do the things you're doing so quickly. I pick a few things to do over the winter and then the weather gets bad and I'm lucky to get those few things done before launch! I suppose that when you get everyhting the way you want it, you'll be able to really enjoy it. I know that's the way I feel about it.

Having the boat inside for the entire winter really helps. In some respects, it helps that he waited and will do the engine work all at once. I got a lot done too (nothing compared to that list) but mine was torn apart for most of the winter and I really tried to stay out of his way while he had tools and parts everywhere. I can attest to all of the above - Brian is not lazy that is for sure!
You yankees have too much time on your hands. I still have 2 quarts of urethane in the trunk of the car from last Nov. The canvas people are so busy I haven't got the canvas replaced from Hurricane Wilma. Although the canvas people have $1000 of my money. My boat looks like sh__! Free room & board Brian. Come down and do mine! Gene Dugan

I had to get one a few years back when I snapped the plastic fixture trying to get the globe off to change the lightbulb. I don't remember the exact cost, but it wasn't bad. Brian, I think that falls into the addicted category...you've lost all control but I bet you're loving every second. You've got a brand new boat waiting for you when the weather breaks...congratulations ! Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA
