B35 New Tank
B35 New Tank
Well since my B35 is Gas and I live in Maryland and have been using ethanol gas since July, I've got to consider replacing my tank. I'll probably use SP Tanks from NJ and go with aluminum. But I was wondering if anybody had checked around for a new fiberglass tank for a B35? br, JohnD

John you can recoat the insdie of your tank with a newer resin mixed with a oz of FG. I think this is much better then alum tanks. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? I have a friend down here that has done this type of thing before. If you like I can seen you his number. The is around the same as Alum tanks, but than you done and never have to deal with in again, unlike Alum tanks. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? BERTRAM PRIDE '07 PLAN TO ATTEND!John, what even you do DO NOT GO WITH SP. They are total fools. I am going to give you a call to head off a big mistake. Those guys can not find their a$$ with both hands. They had tanks out of 28B's to make exact copies. It took three tries on the first boat and both guys ended up with 120-130 gallon tanks instead of 165 gal or larger. The tanks were not even close even with the originals for copies.[:o)] Charlie

There are a couple of guys with 28's up here who had there tanks replaced. Al told me that they used the existing tank as a cradle and wound up losing 20 or so gallons. Seems like a silly thing to do. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Charlie, thanks for the heads up. My yard has a local fabricator that I'll use, that way I'll be able to keep my thumb on what's going on. I'm also going to strech the deminsions a little to see if I can get 300-350 gal. It's crazy to replace the tank and wind up with less capacity than before. It may cost a little more to remove the tank completely, but after all its just job for a sawsall. Pump the tank dry, fill with water and have at it. Though I'd love the new motors, it looks like I'll just have to wait and hope the have them available in a few years. br, JohnD

Bill, Soon.....I'm taking out some neighbors this Friday (9/22) and will bring it up North the following week weather permitting. Going to plunk it down next to Al and we're both replacing tanks. Hate the thought of doing it, but don't want to risk screwing up the engines. See ya soon ! Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

What material are you going with for your tank? I've heard that aluminum isn't good, but there isn't a source for a fiberglass tank for a B35 and I'm not sure I want to put the money into that. Once you go aluminum, the replacement costs are fairly cheap. br, JohnD
