Is this Fish Stix For Sale on Ebay?
Dave, Nice boat. Are they the 450hp 6-92's or the 550's? I finally got on one in Martha's Vineyard this summer. I really liked it. I don't recall seeing it on YW. From the pic it looks like its got a lace top but no tower. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Doug, they're the 450 hp 692's. ummm..... wonder what it would take to kick 'em up? I've got to go through both anyway. Ed, It'll be Fish Stix. Like most of our boats, the name takes on a persona which transcends the boat itself. Tshirts, ice chest stencils, etc. I'd have to change everything. Ed, I'm on the right in the picture. That fish died 2 hours into the fight. It's the first marlin boated by either of the three crews in over 15 yrs of fishing. We mostly tag & release. I'll miss the 33 but I'm looking forward to the bait station, cockpit freezer and live well in the cockpit. Always hated rigging on an ice chest.

I have a similar bait station set up, but no freezer, which I was looking at last night thinking about changing. When you have time, could you post or send a few shots of that set-up. I have storage to the left of my ice maker that I want to put a freezer in. Under the ladder are tackle storage drawers. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? BERTRAM PRIDE '07 PLAN TO ATTEND!Dave, Unles you're unhappy with the speed, I'd leave'em be. From everything I've read, you should be able to cruise at 22-24 knots. 450hp is a great place for the 6-92's. Anything over that and they can be touchy. How many hours do they have? Dave, I've had experence with the 692TA. You bump them up to that 485 hp mark or above and they won't last any longer than a gasser. A friend of mine has the 485hps in a 48 Ocean..got to be lighter than the 37 Bert. 2 Majors in 8 years with less than 2K hrs, and he doesn't abuse them. I had 692Ns in one of our commercial boats. Majored them at 20K hrs. They just wern't designed to last pushing that many hps. Gene Dugan

Gene, Are you sure your friend with the Ocean isn't running 6-71's? I've never heard or seen 6-92's rated at 485hp. 450, 500, 550, 600, 625, yes. On the otherhand, 485hp is a common (though very high) rating for the 6-71. It all goes back to Pascoes 1:1 rule of thumb. I.E. The closer you get to 1hp per cubic inch the more quickly you're likely to experience problems. The 6-92 is 552 ci, so supposedly anything at or under 500hp is no problem. The 6-71, however, is only 426ci so the 450-485hp motors are said to be like grenades with the pins out. My neighbor has the 485hp 6-71's in a 36 Blackfin. He just finished having one of his motors rebuilt. The boat is an 87, and I think these motors have now been rebuilt at least twice in 19 years. If I had to guess, I'd say the motors have no more than 2500-2700 total hours. That comment was mostly a chuckle. Right now, I have no plans to alter the output. You're right. 450 out of 692s is a good place to be. It's kind of like the 270 3208s in the 33s, you can run at that output all day long without concern of melting a valve. The meters are reading 1890 hrs. My plan is to go through each but, as you might imagine, there is a total shortage of workers in this area. And diesel mechanics is no exception. Like anything else, the good mechanics are booked. My choice has a couple jobs ahead - not to mention that he hasn't completed his house repairs. I'm sure his family has a piece of his ear. 692s can become handgrenades when over 550 hp. Doug is right as far as I know on the 485. I think that's a J&T 671. I might poke around Boatdiesel.com to see whats out there on this subject. Have you guys used that site? I find it worthwhile.
Dave Toepfer Fish Stix New Orleans
Dave, I think boatdiesel is a great site. I don't even have diesels and I spent the $25 to look through their archives. Its well worth the $$. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA
