Funny how they don't show you the stern, seeing how there isn't one. Sounds like FishStix to me. Bill 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma.

No that isn't Fish Stix, look at the photos in Slide Show and you will see the differences. Besides, David Toepfer's was a 1981 Convertible damaged from Hurricane Katrina in LA not FL. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? If it ain't broken... don't fix it! But it does show you the benefit of having someone who knows what they are doing do any mods for you. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? As I recall when I looked at the damage to Fish Stix when the pics were posted in the salvage website a long time ago.. the aft cabin bulkhead was literally seperated from the cabin sides and overhead.. I recall this because the details of how the bulkhead was fastened to the boat were revealed.. which caught my eye because my aft bulkhead needs some repairs and I was able to see how to remove it if I wanted to. Also.. I seem to remember the flybridge was more damaged than the one shown here, but I am not completely sure. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC

No, it's not Fish Stix. I've asked but have heard nothing on the fate after it was auctioned on ebay. Stix was painted with imron 4 weeks prior to Katrina, she had no stripes and modified hand holds around the bridge, along with the modified electronics console we talked about in previous topics. The boat was heavily damaged in the storm, and then - the salvage company finished the job. The long bus rides in and out of Chalmette during the weeks and months after for work took me past our damaged boat house. One trip home I caught a ride with a friend and on our way past a boat launch on Bayou Beinvenue, I saw the salvage crew fighting to get her out of the water. Bill and I stopped to watch. You guys would have been proud. She didn't want to leave. You may remember I carried 400 gallons of fuel, and had filled all tanks thinking I would be living on her for some time. Anyway, the salvage crew grossly underestimated the weight of a 33 Bertram. The first attempt saw the crane dive for the water. The second attempt almost pulled the crane down the ramp into the cockpit. Finally, they drug her up the slope of the boat ramp, jaming the running gear back into the hull to get her close enough to gain the vertical advantage. Then, with over 5ft in her belly, they lifted her up and out - without a spreader bar. I could hear the bulk heads crushing. She had only one 2 inch hole near the stern which took her down. The crew punched a new hole near the bow to drain the water. I tried to explain the concept of the scuttle plugs installed for that purpose but I think they realized she was winning the fight. It took about 10 minutes with a 25lb hammer to break a hole in the hull. I must admit, I was pulling for the boat. Anyway, you guys will be happy to hear I purchased another Bert last Friday. A suitable replacement, but not a 33 - so I'll have to become and extended member. On a another positive note, I fished the Faux Pas Rodeo last month on the new Miss Lisa. The old ML was a 33 Bertram Sportfisher also lost in Katrina. Three boats lost in the storm: Reel Crazy, Fish Stix and Miss Lisa all got together on the new Miss Lisa to fish together instead of against each other for the first time. We boated a 645lb Blue Marlin on the first day of the tournament to take home some Calcutta money. I'll try to post some of the pictures. It was good to get back on the water and win.

Dave, Congrats, really glad to hear your back. Did you get it in FL? A Surveyor friend had emailed me that he inspected a really nice B37. Please post some photos of it and the inside. Dave, Glad to hear you're back with a bert. Your story about fishstix is a sad one made more poignant by your descriptions . I can visualize them smashing a hole in her hull and giving her no more thought than just moving another piece of trash. Of course that's their job but it must have been sad. I'd be rooting for the boat myself. Please keep us updated on your 37. Maybe there will be a need for a separate 37 section here someday but I have a feeling that most owners of later boats like the 37's aren't as enthusiastic about them as us and the 31 guys.
