Installing Outriggers

Post by gskill »

I was wondering if anyone has had experience installing outriggers. I recently purchased a used set of Rupp riggers and am attempting to gather enough info to install. I am trying to stay away from having a yard install. I live in the Fort Lauderdale area and would consider having them installed at the dock by someone who is experienced with Rupp outriggers. If you know of anyone please give me their number. I have contacted Rupp and have the installation instructions however I do not want the boat to look like a piece of swiss cheese when finished. Any advice would be appreciated. George Skillas 33 FBC Destiny - 1983 Deerfield Beach, Florida

The general guidelines for outrigger sizing calculation is to multiply the waterline length by .643, which should be the combined length of the outrigger & layout mount of the vessel. Mounted the base at half the waterline length from the transom. When up, draw an imaginary line from the tip of the outriggers straight down, it would not be more than 1'-2' aft of the transom. That would be about 20' for us. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? DO IT NOW... SPACE IS LIMITED!

My riggers ate mounted on the bridge encloser. The pics are in here somewhere. The tubes are 3 ft. with 18 ft riggers. So 22 ft is about right. Mine are Lee's. Gene Dugan

The previous owner of the NITES OFF obviously didn't read the recommendations. The Lees I took off had 8' tubes with 22' double spreader riggers. Any one up here in the NE want to buy them? Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Mike, If you want the mounting pads that are still bolted to my boat, $1000. If you just want the tubes & riggers, $800. Of course I don't know how you would get them to Jersey. Brian, you want to take over trucking duties. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

How about getting one of the Boston Crew teams traveling to Jersey for a competition to throw them on one of their skull trailers? Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Thanks for all the info. When I purchased the outriggers the pads/mounts that attach to the boat were not available. I am having some difficulty in locating these attachments. I called Rupp and they want an unbelievable price. I was wondering if anyone may have or know of where to find used mounting hardware for Rupp single spreder tournament riggers. Thanks Ed for asking. Yes and no. I called Rupp and they want approximately $1500 for the mounts alone which in my opinion is outrageous. I would still have to look for someone to install them properly. I could probably do the installation however I would have to build my knowledge and confidence. I temporarily mounted them on my 33 and the spreader brackets were interfering with my bridge enclosure. So I have decided to drop back and place the project on hold. I got into a project last year installing a windless for the admiral. After dealing with the installer, purchasing a pulpit and investing close to $5000, I did the installation myself. I believe this project will probably end up with the same results and these are used outriggers and not worth the expense. I have put the Rupp outriggers up for sale and am looking at some other alternatives. I am leaving the country on vacation for a few weeks and will deal with the issue when I return. Do me a favor and keep all storms from hitting Florida while I'm gone. Hey George, I was going to go buy new poles this week. How long are the Rupp riggers and OD of the tube ends? They may be too long to mount on the side of my bridge. Think I saw your boat in SeaRay Lake (Lake Boca) a couple weeks ago when I came in. Gene Dugan
