If I had put that much money into a repower, I would want to be there for the testing and to verify that everything is where I want it. Just going down, jumping on the boat, and going does'nt cut it in my book. I would not care how much you trust him. Mike

Eddie is a smart guy it sounds like, and I believe he is smart enough to realize that it's in his best interest to spend plenty of time on the vessel that just received a new power plant. He also is a long time advertiser in the Soundings Magazine, I'm sure Soundings will cut their client some slack in the article. Bill 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. Well, finally splashed her Saturday after a full day of checking, tightening and re-checking. After loading up with fuel Eddy joins me and Mark (the mechanic) and its time to fire it up. Runs mint albeit a bit smokey - "too be expected" from Eddy. More checking and time to take a ride! Eddy drives, 2 mechanics, one on each engine observing and smiling which is just what I wanted to see. I stand there with a cold beer like I was never on a boat before. We run it out to the channel and wait for the GPS to work so we can test speed. Lots of "looks good" talk coming from the engine room. Ths is going very good so far. Once she is up to temp Eddy says "time to see if we got the right props" and hammers the thing. Leaps up on plane and we settle in at about 18 knots for a second - more "looks great" from the engine room and Eddy pushes her up to about 3600 rpms and tells me "this is cruise" as we are ripping along at 26 knots! He was very happy with the props and tells me he thinks he nailed it first shot. Now its time to push it hard and down goes both throttles - now my GPS is showing us at 30 knots dead into the wind and current - swing around and she is doing 32. Eddy brings her down to an idle and tells me the max rpms were nearly perfect, props are right, she is good to go! Big smiles all around and we toast a cold one on the ride in in near dark. These are good guys that really take some pride in their work. Very happy camper!!

Brian's is going to absolutely fly. Maxed out at about 4200 which is perfect. I do not remember which props he ended up using as it was a very busy day but all that will be on the final invoice. For what it's worth, she was full of fuel and water with 4 guys onboard. Once we load up all our stuff we may loose a knot or 2 but who cares. Gonna be lots of bragging this memorial day at my slip!!

Not if I come by with my 370's [:D] Just kidding! They did an awesome job filling in the old veloci-jet exhaust openings on Georges, cutting in a new 5" side exhaust and then blending the paint into the gelcoat. You'd never know it wasn't factory. Spoke to Eddie and they were installing one of my engines today with the other arriving tomorrow. Progress finally! Wow! George, Those are great results. I'm a little curious about the 3600rpm cruise though. If the motors are topping out at 4200, that's about 86% of WOT. I guess I'm just a little surprised the Yanmars like to be cruised that fast. I'm sure Eddie knows what he's doing, but I thought the 6LPA-STP's were 3800rpm motors. I've heard of propping to get max plus 50-100 rpms, but max plus 400! Wow. George, congratulations! Sounds awesome! Doug - your technically correct that Yanmar rates that engine at 3800 RPM. They also do rate that engine for pleasure duty operation @ 3600 RPM continous (255 HP) and I would presume thats with the engine propped to acheive 3900 WOT. Where George appears to be loaded even lighter than that, I would think 3600 RPM would be a breeze for his setup. The only sticky part that I struggle with is that "continuous" designation is subject to their pleasure rating duty cycle -not like a commercial continuous rating... I still haven't figured out how iterpret that one. My freind has this engine and just loves it! He does find that his consumption versus speed starts to deminish running it above 3300 RPM but from 2800-3000 RPM, the engine is just miserly and has been super reliable.

George, I's love to see some pics of your engines in place, can you post some? Great numbers, congratulations! Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com

I was talking with Eddie today about props for mine and he mentioned that he's running George's with 21 x 22, but George can confirm that later. Also, Eddie indicated at this time of year, due to the cooler weather, he likes to achieve a little higher wide open throttle, as it will settle down in the hotter weather? Brian, Are you in business yet? Happy to report that all is well with mine. I have a minor issue with one side running hotter than the other but Eddy thinks it is the gauge. The difference in power is unbeleivable. I ran to Nantucket this weekend with six people, luggage, full fuel and water, packed coolers etc and hardly noticed a decrease in performance. I was skeptical that all that weight would at a minimum effect the boat's ability to get on plane but it popped out of the water like nothing - amazing.

George, Try swapping gauges port for starboard. If the high temp follows the gauge then you know for sure it is the gauge.....I just had that same problem and it was in fact the gauge.
