Doug, That was just one of the thoughts going through my mind when I 1st heard about this last Oct. Meanwhile, have you been following all the reports. There are currently 42 ethanol plants already under construction. In the meantime there is an ethanol shortage so we have to IMPORT the junk for now. Oh yeah, it's about $.50 a gal. & we get POORER fuel mileage for our money. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Al, I know. Its complete bull sh**. I just posted on the Boat US board asking Chuck Fort if Boat Useless was planning on throwing any of its clout around to have ethanol elminated (or not added to) fuel destined for marinas. The ethanol thing is really stupid. I think that the fuel tank issue will end up resolving itself over time(and money spent) but the real bad thing as far as I'm concerned is the fact that adding ethanol will make anything that burns it less efficient. I for one am not all that excited about my boat or truck getting even worse gas mileage. It seems like this is just a good oppourtunity to send money to someones pocket.

This is another plus I can use with my wife to justify the expensive Diesel repower this winter! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Westbrook, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Hey everyone, There is a link on the B31 site about the ethanol industry web page. On that page is contact info. I sent an email to that person with a cc: to Cfort@boatus. This is a copy of that email. "shirley@ethanolmt.org shirley@ethanolmt.org> I'm sorry but I think you people are drinking your product. Have ANY of your people looked into the impact on marine use. For the first few years of the changeover I realize that the ethanol will act as a solvent & scour anything out of the fuel delivery & storage system that can possibly come out. Witness the numerous breakdowns & fiberglass fuel tank failures in NY/CT over the past two seasons. Reference this article: http://www.boatus.com/seaworthy/fueltest.asp As far as your little impact on storage tanks; are you people going to reimbuse all the boat owners to replace their tanks? If not is your liability insurance paid up for when tanks start leaking & boats start blowing up? I apologize for the angry tone but I'm looking at a minimum $10,000 bill because of your product and I just read your rosy web page. Thank You Paul Lupone" I edited out my address & fone #. If more of us start sending emails & making noise MAYBE we can be made exempt. I know. I'm just dreaming. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Al, Good thing I didn't tell her yet! I guess at least my 1990 tank will be OK and I'll have all new hoses. [8D] Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Westbrook, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

I read the same thing about diesel fuel getting ethanol, it's not a matter of if, but when. Also, no fiberglass tank of any year is being called ethanol safe. Call your insurance companies and ask what they will do when sludge ruins your engines, or your boat blows up because of leaking hoses and fuel lines due to ethanol. You'll get a good laugh! I'm with you Al, here is my leter to shirley@ethanolmt.org Who ever the hell that is?! The best thing that can happen is if George Bush senior finds out about this, he is a huge supporter of recreational boating. We'll have to go visit him in Kennybunkport! How can you send Ethanol out into the public, knowing that it destroys the very systems, and structures, that you are putting it into. Which will likely cause, at the very least, extremely costly repairs, but more importantly DEATH! Have you ever been on a gas boat that catches on fire? I bet you haven't, because guess what? They don't catch on fire, they BLOW UP! Do you know what it's like to be in 10 foot seas when you lose both engines? No? Well guess what, you don't start rowing, you SINK! You already have admitted in your companies article that your product can compromise fill pipes, tanks, pipes, fuel filters, dispensers, hoses, and nozzles. That makes you legally responsible, and liable for the death, and destruction of property that your product will cause. I will be contacting my Senator, and Congressmen to let them know what potentially deadly hazards your product will be bringing to our state. Not to mention the negative economic impact on our boating community and marine related businesses. The word is getting out very quickly about Ethanol, and though your article states that we will just "have to get used to the new fuel formulation in the near future", I will say for now, not if me and my thousands of fellow boaters have anything to do with it! Bill, That's great. I think Shirley is the mouthpiece for the ethanol producers. I hope a lot more of us boaters start to swamp the producers with a groundswell of protest. My letter I copied to Chuck Fort@Boatus. Tried to cc: Senators KK (Kennedy & Kerry). However I found out you cannot send an email directly to them. You have to go through the formatted web form. Hey, Mr. Chivas should understand the sinking concern, as I recall he has a little bit of experience in that area. [;)] 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? DO IT NOW... SPACE IS LIMITED!
