Tim, I really think you need to adjust your props. You should be cruising around 70-80% of WOT. That puts your cruise range at 2450-2800rpms. Right know you're cruising at around 80-83% of WOT. Also, if the motors aren't turning up to their rated rpms which I believe is at least 3900rpms, then you're running them into an early grave by over-loading them. I.e. Making them work harder to turn a given rpm. That's probably part of your oil problem. Finally, I don't find my 33 to be very load sensitive at all. Certainly no where near as sensitive as my 28 was. Tim, If you have 1.9:1 trannies and inch and 3/8's shafts, I think you should drop down to a 20X18 with a very light cup. Based on what I had on my boat, Al has on his, and another friend of mine with a 33 Conv had, I think that its the optimum setup for those trannies. So to sum up, I think you should drop 1 inch of diameter and 2 inches of pitch. You won't be disappointed. Part of me wishes I had not gone to the 4 bladers I got last summer. Here are some compression test numbers for my 1988 FBC, 340hp 454's. Hope you can use them to compare to yours. Hours on the engines are tough to tell. Somewhere around 500-800, hour meters have been changed at some point by previous owners. Port Stbd 1. 135 1. 137 2. 130 2. 137 3. 132 3. 135 4. 130 4. 135 5. 130 5. 130 6. 128 6. 136 7. 130 7. 137 8. 130 8. 138 Bill Dunlop "Rebecca Rose" 33 Bertram FBC 1988

Those numbers look real good. Speaking of compression readings, and on a completely unrelated topic, I just heard from the guy restoring my '65 Mustang that I had 120 on all cylinders except #2 which was, you guessed it - 0! Argh!!! When I stopped driving the car it was because it had thrown a push rod. I hoped that all would be OK, but apparently the exhaust valve got chipped. Anyway, after $4K, I can't do anything now but say fix it. [B)] David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

Well, this particular toy I've had since I was 16 (my first car), so it has been a 20 year project. [:D] David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator
