Doug??

Post by lobsta1 »

doug, I think I've solved my genny problem(s)? Think what caused the initial shutdown was an overtemp condition caused by the new belt I had put on stretching out. Startup problem appears to be a bad starter solenoid. Jumpered around it & had a 30 amp load running on the genny. I'll know for sure after I pick up another solenoid (generic, not Onan=less money) & get it installed. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Doug, Just got home. Replaced the solenoid with an Autozone 2 pole solenoid designed for a 1978 Ford V-8. It is a sealed unit so not worried about the spark issue. When I pulled the orig. out, it was a Motorcraft (Ford) solenoid. New one works great. As far as the elbow, here is who I dealt with. $133 with shipping. http://www.perr.com/. As far as the running problem on your genny, did you get it fixed & what was it? Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Offhand, does anyone know what the part number is for the exhaust elbow on a 6.5kw gas Onan gennie? I think its ona-155-1058, but I'm not sure. Hansen in Marlbehead wants $178 for it but I found it on line for $109. The problem is that its not returnable to the online store so I want to get it straight. doug, I did a search on your part #. Couldn't come up with any images but the description was for an Onan mixing exhaust elbow. Sounds like the right part & the Ship Store link is the best price. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Well I just confirmed with Onan that that is the right part number. I'm also going to get new points (160-0002) and a condensor (312-0069). I'm going to have Hansen order me the points ($13.50) and condensor ($9.11). The woman who sets the prices is out today, but tomorrow I'm going to try and convince her to sell me the elbow for $130. I'll let you know how I make out. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA
