Genny Seacock

Post by Capn Tony »

Good day All,
It seems the genny seacock is stuck in the closed position. The handle does nothing to open it. Two issues of course access and I’m in the water. The genny is located below the large deck hatch aft and the seacock further aft near the transom. I removed the handle put a vise grip on the nub and it turns 360 degrees.
Question is the seacock separate from the thru hull?
If so any ideas on changing it while in the water?
Ideas welcome
Thanks

Tony, I think you will have to haul out. If you break something then you probably won't even be able to put a foam plug in. Is it an old gate valve? I would be very afraid to play with it. I would look at online seacock fotos to identify what you have. Did you pull the hose off & try squirting Corrosion X into it?
Good Luck
Al

Thanks for the comments Al. After watching a few videos it is evident I’ll have to haul. I’m not sure spraying it from the inside will help as the handle turns but does nothing to the ball inside. I think something gave way inside. If I only knew how to attach pictures LOL
