Engine
Engine
I’m a little confused at the moment and could use some help. It appears that I have 2 counter rotating engines in my boat. She was repowered about 5 years ago. My confusion stems in part from the fact that the rotors are spinning in opposite directions. I would have assumed they would spin in the same direction. My first question is why would the boat have 2 counter rotating engines. Second question. Why would the rotors be running in opposite directions. She’s run well for years, but I spent the day with the starboard engine, replaced distributor, rotor, and plugs, and she won’t fire. She ran fine at the end of last season.
Re: Engine
Spoke with the marina. They replaced the starter on the starboard engine last week. Now the engines are both spinning in the same direction while the rotors are spinning in opposite directions. I am wondering if they installed in incorrect starter.
Re: Engine
The original 454 motors had the stb engine being opposite rotation and the rotors would spin in the opposite direction. If you repowered with similar engines, that is the set up you should now have with the prop rotation direction being handled by the 1:92 BW tranny on the stb engine. If you repowered with newer Gen. engines then they are probably same rotation with ZF transmissions.

Re: Engine
Just to close the loop. Marina installed the wrong starter. Got the starter corrected, did plugs, rotor and distributor cap and she's running like a champ.
