Wolverine engine block heaters

Post by Camano Mike »

Hi everyone!

Does anybody have any experience with the Wolverine Model 25 engine block heaters? Since the motors are out and getting rebuilt, it seems like a good idea to add these. We typically can use the boat year around here in the PNW, but last season we had a full week below freezing! The marina even froze over! I know that is nothing to you guys in the NE or Great Lakes. Anyway, these seemed like a better solution than one of the engine room heaters. I saw these on Tony Athen's Seamar site.

Thanks!

Block heaters are excellent for the engines, but not so much for the bilge hoses or any of the other through-hull fittings. I use 2 engine room heaters. One between the engines and one under the main salon hatch. We really don't get hard freezes so probably overkill. I also have a back-up generator in case we lose power. None of them are any good without electricity!

Right on! Thanks for the feedback. I didn't think about all the connections around the hull sides that are really exposed in those cold temps. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

I have engine block heaters for my Cummins, but they thread right into the block. Not sure of the make though. Keeps the engine room nice and toasty and the engines always fire up in about a half second (I don't have pre-igniters/glow plugs in mine).

Thank you! I think I'm going to try the Grizzly heaters. They seem to have a good following out here.

Sorry, Wolverine heaters. I swear, the more I drink, the less I think! :D
