shaft packing

Post by lobsta1 »

Does anyone remember what size packing for a 1 3/8 shaft? Last time I bought packing was in 2006 so I just don't remember.
Thanks
Al

Bertram manual calls for 1/4” packing.

I recommend Gortex GFO packing. I just replaced mine after 17 years and it still looked good.

I also adjust for minimum to no drip. Although no drip is not recommend, the proof is in 17 years with no visible ware to the shafts and cool to the touch at cruise.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, didn’t register the 1 3/8” shaft part. Mine are 1 1/2”

Not sure of recommend packing size.

Use 5/16” packing for 1 3/8” shafts.

Still recommend Gortex GFO packing.

Thanks for the replies. I heartily agree on the Goretex. I switched to that in 2006. Since I have the shaft out, I pulled the GFO packing yesterday. It looks brand new & is 5/16.
Thanks Al
