Hynautic helm pump questions

Post by Chum Bucket »

Seastar still manufactures Hynautic helm pumps, the H21 and H25 models. After checking twice, I have a H26 pump. Seastar does not even show a H26. I only have the FB helm and I do not know what cylinder I have on the other end. My buddy gave me an H25 pump and was hoping to add a cockpit station. Does anyone know the difference is between the 2 models? I'm assuming they have different displacements. What helm pumps do you guys have and if you have dual stations? If you've added a 2nd station, what did you use and how'd the project turn out? I'll be calling around tomorrow, but wanted some info from the B33 clan. Thanks!

FYI, the H25 came from a 2 helm boat. I would be curious if the pump can be converted to the other?

A few thoughts to close out this thread. The H25 has a larger fluid capacity meaning less turns lock to lock. The email I received said it should be about 3.5 turns L to L. The H26 (I assume most of us have this one) is about 5 turns L to L so I'm going to swap the 2 pumps and use the H26 in the future cockpit station. Still in the planning/contemplation stage. Having a little more responsive steering sounds good to me. Swap out pumps, have the original rebuilt, flush the system with Aeroshell 41, and move on to other upgrades. Sometimes a big CC with outboards just seems so much easier to maintain. [8D]

Another option if you have an autopilot would be to install a second autopilot controller at your lower station instead of a full helm. That way you only have to run a few wires versus a few hoses, helm install, purging etc. But having a steering wheel at your new station would obviously be far superior. Just giving a suggestion for an easier install.
