Running lights
Running lights
I am adding a windlass this year so I’ll be swapping out my bow chock/running lights for a SS anchor runner. Anyone change out their combo chock/ bow lights to individual lights. Any recommendations for placement of new chocks and type LED lights?

Tony My original bow chock/running light assembly on the stem was getting green as the chrome wore off after 34 years so I gave the fitting to Capt Patrick. I mounted new LED red and green lights on the flybridge sides and made a small bracket and mounted it to the frame over the bridge and mounted the LED masthead and stern lights to it. The new LED system drew about 0.8 volts less than original incadescent running lights. They are bright and should last forever. Or at least longer than I will.

Hi Tony... I actually bought and installed a set of AquaSignal Series 40 nav lights. When I bought them they came only with incadescent bulbs but a year later LEDs became available so I removed the incadescents and replaced them with LED bulbs. The Series 40 lights have a "quickmount" feature where you simply mount a SS bracket to the hull and the light housing fits on and latches to the bracket. Easy to remove and reattach.. a nice feature with the old style bulbs when they burn out, but LEDs are supposed to last almost forever so replacing bulbs should not be an issue in the future. These lights actually can be used on larger boats but if I have a choice I tend to go brighter, or bigger, or more powerful than is minimally required on my boat.
