33-38 thoughts?

Post by waggles02673 »

So we are still looking for the next boat and think we are 6-12 months out from purchasing the next one. We are considering something in the 33-38' range along the lines of Bertram, Blackfin or Viking. Boat will be used for cruising around Cape Cod area with my wife and some Tuna trips with friends. Down the road the boat will be in the Keys for the winters. I don't need canyon range as I fish a lot on friends 45 Viking and another friends 42 Viking express. Wondering if a 33 FBC would be big enough inside to accommodate us, or do I look at say 37 Bert??

For fishing or just ridding around 4-6 adults isn't a problem on the 33. But if everyone is staying on the boat, 4 adults maybe 5 is about max. The more people or the longer you're staying on the boat the bigger the boat needs to be. I believe the 37 draws about 4 feet whereas the 33 draws 3 feet. That one extra foot can be a big deal in some areas were the ICW is filling in.

I still have it. I thought 2 of my children and their kids were moving out of the area but they decided not to and I'm not sure I want to sell it now. You'll be fine with just the two of you on a 33.

Thanks, waggles02673. We love the boat but at one time I thought I would get a 26 Regulator. But it really doesn't make sense to sell my boat and pay 3 times as much for a cc. I already have a 24 Carolina Skiff to take the grandkids tubing and messing around in the sound. Lately I have had a lot of interest and I haven't been advertising. Go figure when you really want to sell there's little interest and when I cooled off on selling lots of interest. I still may sell, depending on how much we use her this spring.

Waggles, The 33 FBC is plenty big enough for you, the wife, and the dogs. I do vacations and extended weekends with my wife and dogs all the time (though my dogs weigh a total of 30 lbs between the 2 of them). The FBC is also good for 4 people very comfortably for a week or 10 days and OK for 6 for a weekend (I've done 8 days with 4 adults and 2 kids and it gets tight after a few days).
Regards, Doug L.

Thanks for the info guys. If anyone is looking for a 37 or knows someone looking this is a good deal. We are still 6-12 months out from buying. The engines have under 100hrs on them SMOH and the owner has taken very good care of the boat. Some of you know John from the Bertram31 or his magazine. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1991/Be ... zH8Mo-cE2w
