Oil Cooler Gasket CAT 3208T 1979 era

Post by Bertram Brad »

Hello, I'm chasing down an oil leak in my bilge. I think I identified it as coming from the oil cooler area. I drained the coolant out and took off the cover to the oil cooler. I found out there is 2 and maybe 3 gaskets in that set-up. I want to change all the gaskets while I have it open. I can't figure out how the oil cooler pulls off to get to the gaskets that are closer to the block. Does anyone have any knowledge? I didn't want to break anything so I didn't pull too hard. Thanks

you may have a leak in one of the oil lines. I had what I thought I had a leaking oil cooler. It turned out to be the oil line. Just a couple of drips for about two years. Then it go way worse. The inner hose got a pin hole leak and the oil ran down between the inner and outed hose cover to the oil cooler. I found the hose had a number of small leaks; but the outer cover held it in. I will garb my books and take a look after dinner.

Check the hose that feeds the cooler! I had one fail, after I ordered the rebuild kits for the oil coolers and have them sitting in the spare cat parts box. Now in my mind when I have the parts to repair something it usually doesn't break!
