454 Troubles Continue

Been down this road a few times. I would check the cam. If the valve covers can be removed easily, just look for a loose rocker arm. You should check all rocker arms with the engine in 4 different positions rotating the engine 90 degrees at a time. One would think that if this was the case you would hear some tapping, but thats not true. When the cam lobe wears down it just becomes round, and there will be no up and down movement of the lifter and push rod, keeping the valve train quiet. I have seen this a few times in older 454s with flat tappet camshafts. I did not see where you mentioned the year of the engine, so if it is a 92 or newer Gen V with roller cam you can pretty much disregard everything I said. Good luck, Jeff
