Hi Paul, I find myself in a similar position to you. I started out searching for a B33 and my family is now raving for a 30' moppie after visiting a boat owned by someone on this site a few weeeks ago. Question, why was gas not an option for a boat of this size? I ask because I was contemplating if I purchased the moppie, I would repower using the crusader 8.1 mpi (385hp). Is that a crazy option, and would any changes have to be made to the running gear? Current shaft size 1 3/8". Franco

Hi Brian, the Donzi had a 260hp mercruiser. Previous owner claimed she did 50mph+. But, I only saw 47-48mph which was plenty of fun in Long Island sound. With a new long block 260hp, I would bet she would hit 50 easy. The 325hp Mercruiser reman would be a very nice choice though! Below is a link to craigslist if anyone wants to see the listing. For the Craigslist listing, I included the new 325hp reman installed. But, I will sell for $10K without the engine. Also, I can email a word document with several more pics. This boat would be a great tender to the 33!!! http://hartford.craigslist.org/boa/1384338976.html Franco, Regarding the shafts, Doug is correct (as usual [:)]) I have info in the Moppie manual that indicates both gas and diesel came with Aquamet 22 Stainless Steel Shafts 1 3/8"...... The 385hp may be overkill since the shaft angles are kind of steep which forces the bow down. Frank Price was kind enough to explain this to me during a phone conversation and a few other folks have confirmed this. I want to be sure he is comfortable with the 1 3/8" shafts since most dealers are whining that they are too small. Some even asked for me to sign a waiver. But, I found out that the material is Aquamet 22, so I think they should be fine. Bertram used the good stuff!! The calculator on boatdiesel.com says they have better than 2 safety factor with Aquamet 22, but much less with other materials. So my guess is that most dealers are assuming it is poorer quality shafts. Will keep posted. Cheers.

385hp Crusaders would be a perfect gas re-power option for the boat. No shaft changes would need to be made if the originals were in decent shape. 385hp gas is a lot different than 370+hp diesels. Waaay less torque in the Crusaders. I wouldn't worry about the shaft angles with the Crusaders, you'd be fine.
