Water & holding tanks?

Post by lobsta1 »

Hey Guys, Due to the INFINITE wisdom of our politicians,I can't use my factory refurbed Lectrasan any more. Have to put in a holding tank. On my 78, I have a 70 Gal poly tank. Does anyone else have a similar tank? This was a factory install. The plywood box & shelf obviously were dropped in as a unit before the cabin was put on. The whole unit was painted inside & out with the Bert gray. The paint was on top of the screws & silicon bronze nails the unit was assembled with. Many of the screws were inaccesible as they were next to the stringers. The only way to get the tank out was with a sawsall. Same thing with dissasembling the rest of the box structure. I will be installing a 32 gal. holding tank & a 65 gal. water tank. I won't need the Lectrasan any more. I purchased it in spring of 2002. Had the factory refurb & upgrade the unit last season. Any one interested in buying it? Al

Al, Why not install a small holding tank (say 5 gallons) with a y valve and keep the lectra san. This allows you to obey the spirit of the law. Lectra san's aren't illegal, you just can't use them in Salem Sound. I believe you can still use it past the 3 mile boundary. As we all know the discharge from the lectra san is cleaner than what is being pumped out of Deer Island.

Doug, The no discharge extends from Magnolia south to Duxbury & then across all of Cape Cod Bay to east of P'Town. In my boat the toilet is against the head fwd bulkhead. I have the Lectrasan under the v-berth. A decent sized holding tank will only fit in the engine room against the bulkhead & under the three steps going down. The plumbing needs are diametrically opposed. Even putting the holding tank under the steps will be an undertaking to make the y-valve, the pump & all the hoses fit. I am going to make two models up of the tanks & see if I have room to be able to fit two pump out dip tubes. One will go overboard & one will go up to the gunwale for the pumpout boat. As it is, I have a guy coming out Friday to recertify the Halon system & also show me how to disable it so I can relocate it. Al

That's too bad. The lectra san is a great unit. If you could fit both I wouldn't give a rat's ass about the no discharge zone.
