Rich, Do you have a holding tank or a Lectrasan? If a holding tank, where is it mounted & do you know what size. Anybody else with the older B33 FBC version with a holding tank? Al

Mine is under the front v berth. 20 or 30 gallon model. I have a vacu flush head bought the whole vacu flush system for 195.00 how bout that. There are so many pump outs down here it has never been a problem. I am going to at some point go with the tankless water heater and move all of it back to the bilge in front of the port engine. There is probably room for the regular hot water heater and the holding tank there anyway. My tank has a bout 10-12 inches of space behind it. I would also think you could buy an angle tank and move it next to the hull side.

Rich, Sorry, I just found your response. Do you think that tank was a factory install? When I first got my boat, I made a bunch of cardboard models & an 18 gal. was about the biggest I could fit through the vee-berth hatch. Al

Rich, I also have three hatches. With a Crown head that uses 1 gal. per flush, I would think an 18 gal. would fill up fast. Al

I am on vacu flush i pint per flush I used to have the jabsco electric I put a shut off valve on the water side so it would not put so much in the holding tank. Wasn't bad at all. No vacu flush though. Plus no guy used thehead off shore.

Al, I replaced my original holding tank with a 25 gallon from VacuFlush. My recollection was that I calculated that the original was about an 18 gallon size. Mine is under the stairs and I was able to fit 25 gallon by removing the shelf it was on (enabling me to lower it another 4" - 6") and installing a 1" thick starboard panel between the stringers to sit the new tank on. Did you change it just for more capacity or did you wear it out. Do these things have a life expectancy?

I changed it to reduce the protrusion into the watertank stepdown area and to gain a little more capacity. Less length and a little more height and width. Now I can step down into the water tank compartment with no obstructions to step on or connections to break. I imagine they have almost unlimited life expectancy as long as the fittings don't leak? Oh ya, I remember you told me that. I need to adjust some hoses in that compartment to make it easier to get to the outboard side of the engines. As I get fatter I worry about getting stuck.

When Al and I were looking in his engine compartment he gave me an idea. I might consider making the two hatches over the water tank / holding tank area a single hatch. Basically get some marine plywood and cut one hatch. I might even consider adding hinges at the aft end and a spring lock that would hold the hatch vertical when open. That way you have quick easy access to the whole area (I need to trim down too). Also, you can then make only one hatch carpet or flooring cover over that area instead of two. We'll see, not a high priority just yet. Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Yanmar 370's Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)
