Oil capacity on the 3208s 260 hp

Post by DemianM »

Does anyone remember the capacity of oil of these engines? I just want to make sure before I purchase the oil. Thanks!

Demian, In case no one here can help, I would check boatdiesel.com. It's a great resource. As you're running diesels, I'd pay the $25 to be able to view the archives.

Four gallons each, but if you haven't calibrated your low/full dipstick marks for the installed angle of your engine, do it now. My boat had been over-filled with oil for it's 18+ years before I got it because nobody did that. The engine angle has an effect on how much oil the engine really needs. The procedure is in the CAT engine manual. In my case (your is probably the same) they only needed 3.5 gallons per engine at the angle they are installed. I forget what the angle was, but all you need is a level and a protractor to find it. So they had been continuously overfilled by 2 quarts until I got the boat. Once I figured out that little detail my oil burn rate went way down. Not good to overfill them - recalibrate those dipsticks!
