generator question #2

The air flow to my generator compartment vents in on the Port vent behind and slightly above the mail slot. Exhausts on the stb. where the blower is located. About running the blowers. Do what you are comfortable with. I shut mine off when the boat is running offshore. If I'm inside, and in a "no wake" zone, I run them. If I'm at idle speed down wind , I run them. Habit, I guess. I have not had any fumes in the boat at all sinceI put in the 8.1s. The old 454s , I would get fumes in the boat running long distance. I have 3 sniffers. Salon, Fwd cabin and the stb. bunks. gene thats too funny i also have 3 sniffers in the same areas. I am going nuts with this problem of my genny shutting off while running . i removed the strb panel in cockpit and inserted one of my co detectors in there and the sniffer did NOT go off. so i am going to check my engines for exh. leaks, i just did manifolds and risers on both engines abaout 6 hrs ago, and i hope there is no leak there but who knows. Maybe its the stationwagon effect of co coming over my gunnels, I DONT KNOW but it sucks to have spend the money on a BRAND NEW genny and the install and i cant run my genny more than 20 minutes while under power. If i dont find a leak in the engines ill just eat MY GLOCK , just kidding i will then install a HUGE blower venting from the genny area. Thanx ...Pete

On the subject of generators has any one made a decent cover to stop the salt water from leaking on the unit from the hatchs? I cut a piece of fiberglass and bolted on the top of the generator covering the entire middle hatch. An umbrella for the genny and no mre rust on the new Kohker 8kw I have in the hole. Hello Larry and welcome aboard! Someone here had a great idea and posted it here a while ago.. I can't claim credit for it.. but a rubberized barbecue grill cover makes a nice generator waterproof cover.
