My mechanic cleaned my intercoolers yesterday. I'm having him change my raw water impellers too. How often is everyone else changing their impellers? Last time I changed my impellers the rubber had broken loose form the hub. But my engine was still not overheating. Buzz

Buzz - I think the engine manual calls for a 250 hour service interval on the impellers (don't take that as gospel, I don't have it in front of me) The reason I can't remember the specified service interval is becaus I simply change mine annually.

I have been changing my on an annual basis and most of the time they need it. On my outboard I change it every other year. I used to own a boat with Detriots and it seems like they lasted longer. Buzz

I have some of Tony's impellors as well as a spare rebuilt raw water pump always on the boat. I can't see any physical difference between Tony's impellors and and the Sherwoods, but I trust Tony's word that they are better. I found it almost impossible to remove an impellor from the pump without breaking off some veins, so I carry a whole spare pump. BTW.. My local diesel guy showed me some impellors he has on his shelf.. the metal insert in the rubber has a section of threaded inner surface.. making it easy to remove them.. screw in the appropriate bolt and the impellor comes out without pliers or any other tools he says. Buzz.. no, I haven't had to remove one yet, but I do have one installed now, which I put in about 40 engine hours ago. BTW.. for anyone who needs to replace an impellor.. a tip I just read in a magazine.. take a proper sized hose clamp and use it to compress the vanes of a new impellor, then you can get it inserted part way into the housing without having the hassle of trying to get the vanes to collapse all at one time. In fact, if you use two clamps you will have a much easier time. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Buzz, Sorry to hijack your thread. Frank, The Fein Multimaster is great at cutting off teak plugs. I did over 50 of them the other day in about 10 minutes! Al
