chart recorders

Post by sbeer »

Ok, I have given up the Furuno that I have. It can just make out bottom at 1500 ft. I have done everything possible to set it up to read bait and fish when I am in the canyon. Set it up at 200 ft in 600 ft to read the upper half of the water colum, nothing. Need some suggestions on a quality recorder for deep water. Mike

What transducer do you have - is it 1kw? I have been told that for deep water performance you need 1kw or better.

I just bought the new Furuno 7000F. It is the widescreen Plotter/Fishfinder. I had installed the Airman 1kw with the highspeed block the last time I hauled out assuming I would get a Furuno something. This machine has noooo problem. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

I do belive it's a 1 kw Sean. Not sure. What do you think about 2 kw/ Do they even make them like that? Need to do more researh I guess. Gene, I only want the fishfinder. I have the Garmin 3010c for a chart and would not give that up for the world. Just wanted to know what you deep water guys use. Mike

Mike - if you have a Garmin 3010c - you can add a GSD 22 (black box sounder) - The Gsd 22 is compatable with up to a 2kw transdicer. They make them even bigger - but 2kw and up is usually used for the big commercial guys. I know furuno makes a few that can handle a 2kw and even bigger - but they are expensive as hell. I think just the 2kw t/d is almost 2 grand!!!!!!
