SDS, I have a gas powered 1987 SF. With the original 454's . I usually cruise at 24 gallons per hour . At that rate of fuel burn I get anywhere from 15.5 knots to 17.5 knots, depending on the tide and wind. Without the canvas and a light fuel load she will get 18+ knots at that rate of fuel burn. If you can find one with newer fuel injected motors that number will improve by somewhere around 10% , mybe a little more at higher speeds. By the way, the boats really are made to cruise at around 19+ knots . Hope this helps.

I have a 86 33sf that I repowered with Merc 8.1's two seasons ago. The engines are Smartcraft which allows you to get very accurate readings on lots of things including fuel burn. Depending on sea conditions these are average numbers. 3000 rpm-19knts-26gph, 3200rpm-21knts-30gph, 3400rpm-22knts-34gph, 3600rpm-23knts-36gph. In muy opinion the boat does not like 19 - 20 knots and you use the trim tabs extensively. At 22knts the tab use is reduced and at 23 knots ionly use the tabs to correct side to side balance. The boat really likes 23 and above as it is completely up on the strakes and the bow comes down. As I said it is effected by load and sea state.

Bob, on the Smartcraft gauges - do you have separate H2o temp, oil press, etc? If so do you ever lose power to one on start? I will occasionally loose power to say the stbd. water temp or port oil pressure, it's random, when starting the engines. If I shut down and restart, it'll usually clear - wierd since they're all on a common bus - could understand if it was the same one. Alan.

Alan, I do have separate guages tach, water temp, oil presure and voltage. I have not experienced the problem you describe. I do have a problem where the unit has to reboot if I turn the breaker off at the panel. It just takes a minute on start up but the individual gauges don't work until the reboot is complete.
