Engine Box Cushions

While in Annapolis, MD I saw a boat with cushions on the engine boxes and was thinking these would be a nice addition to the boat and add a little more comfort to the boats cockpit seating. Has anyone out there replaced their engine box cushions? When I purchased my boat years ago the engine boxes had the snaps in place but no cushions. I’m looking for a ball park cost to compair with any cost estimate I get for having a set of vinyl cushions made. My B33 is the 1980 model sportfish. Thanks in advance for any assistance

I have cushions on my '83 33sf boxes. Let me tell you... They are worth every penny. They are great when waiting for lines to get knocked down from the outriggers, they are great when guests are hanging out in the cockpit, the wife loves them; they are great!!!. My boat came with them so I dont know what the cost would be. I am sure if you get a couple estimates you will get a good idea of price. I was wandering if there was also another standard element with the clips and the cushions, which we have and it just makes all the difference when we want to sleep outside ... wooden parallel runners to place floor boards in between the engines thereby extending the entire surface to a gigantic space. Was this a Bertram feature or did my previous owner have an eye for relaxation?

I don't think they're a standard item to purchase, but easily made by any upholstry shop. My boat came with them and they're great. But one down side is you better not get them wet....they're like a huge sponge. Even with morning dew. So, they're so big that when it does rain, what in the world do you do with them it rains ? No getting around the cabin when they're in there. We had canvas curtains made over the aft section of the Fly Bridge so that we could keep them dry when it rained and they're much more manageable. If you have them made, have the shop use high density foam. It's a little more firm & does not absorb water. Also have them use a nylon mesh fabric on the bottom. This way when you hose them off, just stand them up & they drain nicely. They also double as a raft, since the high density foam floats. I store them inside when at the dock & they stay good as new. In addition to the cushions, you may be interested in fastening wooden extensions on the side of each engine box which are placed to support slabs than close off the entire width of the boat, which can be filled by the fish box cushion. It makes 50" owners envious of the extra large relaxation zone - which is also protected from downwind gusts and sun!
