Helm Seat
I would like to raise the helm seat on 1989 FBC. Did not find much on the search. Does anyone know the original manufacturer? These are the swivel ladder back type. Thanks Capt Rich Catch 22 1989 33 FBC

Rich, I have a Todd helm seat, but I was able to use this: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... rtial/15/0 I took the sleeve out of this and used it with my existing pedastal as the holes on the base of the new pedastal did not match up to what was already on the deck of the bridge. I just had to drill a hole in the existing base in order to lock the height. My chair bolted right up to the new adjustable pedastal sleeve. Infact, I still have the base that came with the adjustable pedastal. It works great, as the with the old set-up the rail that runs on the top of the wind screen was right in my line of site while operating at cruising speeds. Doug, This looks interesting. I've been wanting to raise my helm seat. So you unbolted the chair from the base / swivel and bolted it to the new one. The sleeve that comes with the new one then slips inside or outside the original stanchion? Do you think It would work on my set up? Good luck with sea trial. Ron

Ron, That's exactly what I did. I don't know if your's would work. You could always buy it and return it if it doesn't fit. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Al, The base isn't touched at all. You just remove the old sleeve from the existing deck mounted stanchion, remove the seat from the old sleeve, bolt the seat to the new sleeve, drill a hole in the existing deck mounted stanchion for the new sleeve's adjustment knob, and slide the new sleeve into the existing stanchion. It should work just fine. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Doug, You lost me. I don't know anything about a sleeve. I just have the pedestal coming up out of the base. To change the height I would think that I would have to change that pedestal. I don't see how I could change the pedestal without pulling the base up. Maybe my B33 is unique but I would think that most of the older B33s are similiar. Al

You right. My memory is coming back. There was no old/existing sleeve. You just unbolt the chair from the existing pedastal and mount it to the sleeve that comes with the new pedastal/sleeve. You throw out the new pedastal and slide the new sleeve into the old pedastal. It should work. I ended up raising the seat 6 inches. I used the pompenette 6 inch extension and clamp. 6 inches is perfect for me, can sit and run the boat while having good visibility. http://www.pompanette.com/pompweb.nsf/7 ... enDocument Capt Rich Catch 22 1989 33 FBC
