First canyon run of the season
First canyon run of the season
Leaving on sat at 1 in the afternoon for my first of the year canyon trip. Excelent reports of whites, alison tuna, yellowfin and longfin. The crew is pumped up and working on the boat like ants on a pile of sugar. Hope to get some pics to post. Mike

How did you do - we went out Friday night to the Hambone - came home Sat night and it was the first night in 3 weeks that the reports at the hambone were bad. 2-3 ft prediction turned into a 5-6 foot tight chop with breakers into the boat while at anchor all night - that wouldn't have been bad but....NO FISH. Chunked and jigged all night and got nothing! - We were out with another boat that had a pro on board - they were anchored next to us and they had nothing as well - I didn't see another fish landed and there were an easy 150 boats in the general area.
To bad about the zero catch Sean. Went to the hudson 100 square. Totally dead, one blue shark. We left there and went to the tip of the tongue and did a drift for the night. Sea's were flat calm hardly no wind. Acouple of boats were doing great on the chunk, 8 to 10 fish. I setup outside of them, had all the bait and conditions were how you would want them. Pods of rain fish, squid, flying fish, dolfins chargeing through but not one taker. Really burn't my ass.At false lite we went on the troll. Heard the bite was good at the east wall, so like an ass, I pull and run to the east wall only to get there 10 min. after the bite. Stayed there the rest of the day and finally went 2 for 5 on yellowfin. Worst part, not half an hour after I left the mouth, it lit up. A friend of mine went there while I was running to the wall and loaded up. 10 or 11 yft. in acouple of hours. Should have stayed to my game plan. You can bet that will not happen again. Maybe next time for you Sean. Bummer to burn all that fuel isnt it. I burnt the most I have ever burnt before and had 2 yft and a chic dilfin to show for it.. BUMMER Mike

Don't feel too bad, miles and miles of coral reef were killed here by red tide. We now have to go 80 miles plus offshore to find some fish that we could purchase at the fish market for 1/100 the cost of fuel. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? BERTRAM PRIDE '07 PLAN TO ATTEND!
BERTRAM PRIDE '07 PLAN TO ATTEND!Capt Ed, Red tide? What is that from? You guys are always in the 80 degree water temp, are'nt you? Not to be a smart'y, but now you boys down there know what its like to be a northerner canyon runner. 80 miles is about average up here. One of the reasons why I only go twice a month. Can get real expensive. Sean, 150 boats at the hambone, jeez I think there was tops 30 at the Hudson. I see that many boats I look for something on the outside. As far away as I can get. Let me know about the baltimore run and don't forget the pics. Mike
