Bertram Rendezvous - Block Island 8/12 - 8/14

Post by Brian Davin »

I was on vacation last week with the family. Left Westbrook CT on Saturday 8/6 and made Falmouth MA in just under 5 hours. Stayed two nights, which gave me the opportunity to bicyle over to Green Pond and meet Rick and see his 33 SF "Ticket". Nice boat! We headed for Nantucket on 8/8 and stayed till 8/11 before heading to Cuttyhunk for one night. (Sounds like "Bob S" might have been in Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard around this time - sorry I missed you!) We then headed for Block Island on 8/12 for the Bertram Rendezvous. Champlin's Marina unfortunately let the group down and did not have us all together. We were in 3 - 4 different spots which was less conducive to interaction. There were at least 10 or 11 31's, 1 - 20', 1 - 25FB, 1 - 33FBC (me) and 1 - 38', that I know of. Boat ran great for the trip, though one of my Tachometers went on the fritz as we were leaving Nantucket (new gauges just arrived today). We had great weather all week, other than a few scattered showers on Wednesday in Nantucket. Seas were relatively smooth with good visibility. Fog had rolled into Block Island on Sunday prior to departure, but visibility increased to 1 - 2 miles before I departed at 2:00 p.m. A number of the 31's left earlier that morning due to the length of their runs home. All in all, I think a good time was had by all, though I didn't attend the dinner Saturday night (we had our 4 kids with us). Some amazing restoration jobs and a nice group of people! I must say, I don't look forward to filling the tank back up this weekend![:(] I've got a bunch of pictures from Nantucket that I'll try to post or send to David to provide a little tour of some amazing yachts and scenery. Hope everyone is enjoying there summer as much as we are! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Westbrook, CT

Brian, go ahead and email me the pics. If you can, try to set the size to 800x600, or 600x800, or close to that. Thanks. David Sumich 33 Megabites Huntington Harbour, CA Forum Administrator
