John, Are you running at 21 knots or MPH? The fuel burn seems pretty high for 21 MPH. Just as a comparison , when I cruise at 24 GPH, it usually will give me a 16 to 17 knot cruise. Bumping the speed up to 20 knots or so will burn right around 30 GPH. Of course , right now I don't have a full enclosure up, so it seems like last year at 20 knots I was using a little more fuel at at 20 knots with the enclosure and I rarely did go that fast. Could the difference be bottom growth? It souds like you're way into the secondary butterflies burning that much fuel.

Frank, John is running a 35, which is heavier, wider, and has a deeper V than the 33's. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

I liked the look of Frank's twin scans that I went and got a pair too. Now I just need the time to install them. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? I had a fairly long discussion with my diesel engine guy about Flow Scans.. he said he has taken out more than he has installed. He says you have to be very careful that the flow restrictions (he is speaking about diesels) they cause don't starve the engine, and that you have to be very sure that all the fittings are well sealed when you tighten them, otherwise you get minute but problem causing amounts of air in the fuel before it gets to the engine. By and large he does not recommend them to his diesel customers. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC

Hi Frank; Flowscans were installed 3 months ago (45 hours) and just came back from a 660nm, 2 week trip through the Bahamas. The outfit has been very accurate and flawless providing usefull information regarding fuel management and the effect of the variables (speed, RPM and trim). It was installed by someone the manufacturer recommended who appeared to be very familiar with it. They insist that Racors no smaller than 20 microns (30 is best) be used to avoid starvation. I suppose time will tell. I'll let you know if it fails. Jose Jose Jaen "Blue Chip" 1993 33FBC Miami FL

Racors no smaller than 20 microns - arent the secondary fuel filters significantly smaller than 20's on most diesels - I think mine are. I always thought " clean air and clean fuel" are two extremely important components in diesel engine life - I dont know that I would sacrifice a good filter to install fuel flow meters.

Sean I missed this earlier, but if I recall you have 3208T's too? If so they do not do well with fuel flow with smaller than 30 mic filters on your primary (racor) filters). My understanding is that the secondaries (spin on) are 5 mic, but if you put the smaller primaries the fuel pump can't handle it and your engine will perform badly. Stick with the red 30 micron primary filters Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com

My 3208's are 30mic primary and the engine is 2 mic. I usaully will run a 10 mic in the beginning of the year after winter lay-up then switch to the 30 after my first fuel up. Havent had any fuel flow problems. Still think the flow-scans are a good investment. Mike
