Masthead light

Post by Bobjr1261 »

Recently broke the masthead light on my FBC, does anyone know where I can find a replacement. Scoured the web but can’t find anything similar! Thanks in advance

The original should be a Perko , made of zinc, so they don't hold up all that well. Almost any of them will work, I have an aqua signal on mine now.

Thanks for the reply Frank. Finding it difficult to get the base to match the existing screw holes.

Ya that's going to be a problem unless you can find an original.

I agree with the other Frank. I replaced all my navigation (aka "running") lights with Aqua Signal Series 41 lights. The 41 Series is for boats larger than ours, in that they are meant for boats up to 20 meters, or 60 feet. The Aqua Signal Series 25 lights are acceptable for boats under 12 meters (aprox 36 feet), and are a lot less expensive. My rationale for buying the Series 41 lights is that when it comes to being seen at night is "more is better". The Series 41 lights came with regular old incadescent bulbs when I bought them several years ago.. With all four lights illuminated (stern, two side and masthead) they all together drew about 3.8 amps. Last year I upgraded to all LED bulbs, for longer bulb life and lower power draw. My nav lights now draw about 0.4 amps as I recall. A far as the screw holes are concerned.. buy an epoxy repair kit (two plunger tubes) and fill the holes with epoxy. If you are anal about seeing the old holes buy some white pigment colorant and add some to the mixed epoxy before filling the holes. A word about Perko products. In my humble opinion they mostly are junk. They seem to mostly use some kind of base metal plated with cheap chrome. In a couple of years the surface begins to corrode and deteriorate and get pimples. Most reputable manufacturers use solid stainless steel that doesn't look like crap after a few years. Perko also is often outrageously expensive compared to most of their competitors. IMHO Aqua Signal lights are quality products at competitive prices.
