Westerbeke Parts

Post by retman »

Well the old girl fired right up this year after her best season ever. She's a 5kw BCG and quiet as a mouse... when she's running. 10 minutes in she just dies. No surge, just like I hit the switch. Track it down to no spark. Everything checks except the igniter module inside the distributor. Westerbeke wants $950.95 for it Holy Sh*t! There has to be a better way. These are Mitsubishi engines used in their minicab trucks used on farms and for off roading across the USA. I always new the OEM parts were pricy but this was too much. Here is what I bought and a price comparison. WB 43053 igniter 950.95 G&R imports 75.00 WB 43054 trigger 147.95 G&R imports included with above WB 43059 Dist. Cap 84.00 G&R imports 25.00 WB 43050 rotor 91.95 G&R imports 10.00 $1274.85 vs. $110.00 In the interest of fairness G&R has a 4.99 handling fee. They have all the engine circulating pumps. timing belts and internal parts too. Hope this helps anyone who has been held hostage.

Mike, most of these web sites show their products with images for the common parts. For the electronic part I emailed a picture to confirm. The parts I received look good. Also, I am very familiar, some say too familiar with this unit. I would say most of the problems I've had have been electrical in nature. Bad connections unable to pass low level signals and voltage. Bill: I guess I should have started with I have a 7.0 BCGD. Do you know if that is a Mitsubishi engine? Mike

What year? I believe Westerbeke sourced their engines from Daihatsu prior to Mitsubishi. Those parts are available from the same sources.

That should be the same Mitsubishi motor as in my 5.0BGC. I thing your electrical end may be different. Mine is a 2003. Same displacement.

Anyone have a good parts source for the electrical end of the generator? When running mine the other day it mysteriously dropped the load and is only producing 10 volts. I've already identified a couple parts that are in need of replacement and have them on order but may need a few more. Here's to wishing it isn't a smoked winding as well.
