Went back and re-read this post. I just want to say that I doubt very much that Bertram de-tuned these motors. While I'm sure that the Cat dealers are correct and the motors are de-tuned from 300-320hp, I just can't see Bertram wasting their time doing this work. My piint is that Cat probably did the de-tuning. There are Cat spec sheets on boatdiesel.com for 255hp. Are these the same engines, or do you guys have Cat manuals that say 260hp or 270hp? I got a hold of the group bench tests for the production line range on my motors. It is apparently done by range of serial numbers. It was 316 as they left Peoria. They don't test every motor I understand, just ranges. So, someone detuned these down to 270 hp or the 512 gears can handle much more than their rating of 270 hp if they were not detuned. Wish someone with some knowlegde could answer the very first question I asked like now months ago. What were these, what are these, and why if they are not what they were did they become so? Peter L. SBEER. Mike, since I likely have what you have for powerplant (and I have given up trying to figure it out) what props are you running and how do you like them? Peter L. Banis KNOT AGAIN Boston

Pete, The boat is an 81 sf. I don't know how the convertable and the sportfish compare, I would think that the convertable is heavier. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I run 21x23 1/2 nibrels. They were 21x24, but toke 1/2" off to let the engines run alittle easier. Havent seen any diffrence in performance from one to the other. When I went to have them scanned I found out that one was over a half inch diffrent from the other. Cant stress enough about scanning your props. Cost was 500 bucks to do both. Its worth it. Anyway I found out that the boat was gas when built and converted to diesel in 87. That was when the motors were built through cat. Still finding things out every year, Mike just plain addicted

Mike: You're running 21 x 23 1/2 nibrals and using the stock 502 gears or equivalents turning 1 3/8' shafts, right? Sean: Don't let me get you on a witness stand. :) Peter L. Banis KNOT AGAIN Boston, MA

Banispeter At the Mid-Atlantic Rendezvous there is going to be a repowered 46B with the new big Cat Common Rails. I forget the HP but Holtz is doing the repower. It was a major job. 35B's came with 300HP 3208T's with 506TD's. 1982-1986. The 35B Cat power boats have bubbles in the hull to make room for the 506TD's. Charlie

To Sbeer: Mike, nothing further. I will change to 21 x 23 with a #3 cup nad have me scanned. The witness is excused. :) But, I broke 2 ribs Friday so the boating season will be substantailly abbreviated this year. No, it was not realized in any endeavour of pleasure, I regret to say.
