Port Marine Gear Rebuild Info

Post by Bill2010 »

In Manasquan, NJ and in process of purchasing a 1982 33' SF and lab samples came back with a bad port gear. Can anyone recommend the best place for a rebuilt transmission? Thanks!

Twin disc will rebuild your gear and its a whole lot cheaper than buying a new one. Make sure to change the rubber seals so there will be no pressure loss causing a delay in the shift.

Sounds a little pricey to me just for a rebuild. What all does that include. Scott 1987 B33 SF Dealer's Choice V Edisto Beach, SC

That sounds high and that is close to the price of a new gear.

OK - Thanks. I got this quote from their dealer transaxle up in Hackensack. Any other shops folks around here (Manasquan, NJ) might recommend for a quote?

That price does not sound bad. I have had mine out and re-built by Foley Cat. I also had the guy from PA work on the gear can't think of his name. Let me take a step back you are talking about an MG-502? If you go to twin discs web site they will give you a list of re-builders. I am on my third re-build. I shipped the gear to RMI services in 2007 and they charged me $2900.00 to re-build it. There is a place in the Highlands NJ as soon as I can think of the name I will post it. George Name is Authority Marine service 732--291-0012 there web site does not say Twin Disc but it is on there truck.
