Sorry forgot , regarding humidity I believe if you can keep your bilges dry would help.I don't have any deck water running back into the boat.

Since there is some discussion on leaks and there are several 89's here I thought I would ask. I am tracing what is probably a old window leak. Water has collected between the hull and the shower panel and has started to drain into the shower. It looks like I have some damage to the lower portion of the shower panel. As it turns out the area between the head and the v berth and behind the shower is not accessable. Has any one had to access this area? There is a flexible duct from the forward a/c in this space also. It looks like the shower wall panel may be removable but it does not want to come very easily. I need to get this panel out for repair or replacement. Thought I would ask here before I start taking everything apart. Rick 89 SF Rockport, TX

quote:Originally posted by nautoncall Well WOT after the props were polished was 23.2 and at cruise was 18.7. Not a speed demon but not bad also. Those engines sip the fuel too..which is a good thing. The bottom is not that clean so I might get another 1/2 knot or so with a new bottom. I rate those engines highly. Good score. I crewed a 56ft boat from Hawaii to new Zealand fitted with a pair of Yanmar 240's.Sadly not a Bertram but 4500 nautical miles they never missed a beat. Here on the east coast of northland, New Zealand we typically only run 15 miles to the marlin grounds so 18 knots just gives you time to pick which lures to use. Still Dreaming forgot to say...we travelled at the most economical speed and the pair of engines used 1 litre diesel per nautical mile

Welcome aboard Tone E. 4500 nm that sounds like a heck of a trip. New Zealand, a place on my list to see someday! The boating must be good there, and the fishing even better?

Good time to come down right now. The striped marlin are all over the northland coast and every day lately someone gets busted up by blues in the 5-700lb class. Last week we tagged 3 stripes and got dusted by a good blue that jumped all over the line. (I guess this should be in the fishing thread)

You're making us jealous Tone E, sounds like a blast. Where will the Marlin migrate to after your season is over ? Up to Hawaii ? I've heard that our Fall is the best time to fish in those parts. Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

I think most of them will not cross the equator. There tends to be little mixing of stocks from each side of the equator and that goes for many fish species. Satelite tag returns show our Striped Marlin head up to the Fiji/Samoa region or a little further west around Vanuatu and the Coral sea during our winter. I believe there has been 1 tag returned from Mexico way so I guess if they find the right currents they will go a long way.

Tone E. Thanks for the info. Well, your recent fishing success makes me very jealous, especially the little travel time for marlin water. With the way our coutry is going, a lot of us may be looking to relocate your way in future years. That fishing makes it more alluring.
