Need your help and input!
So many of you are very savvy about boats and I need your input. I have bought a hull (36 Merritt #2 ). There are very few of these and are know to be the best sport fishing boats ever built. All of the glass work is done and the decks are divinciled with the 3/4 inch teak for the decks. This is a day boat and will stay that way. Now for the motors. I would like a 25 to 30 knot cruise and was thinking about the 300 to 370 Cummings. Please your thoughts! Larry, I think that with that classy a ride you should have 450's in there, it would be a shame to have the slowest Merritt. Since I'm familiar with the Cummins, I would buy the C 450's. If you look around you can find deals on them because everyone is looking for the B's. They are just a little bigger, more displacement and more rugged, but on the used market, not really more money. Otherwise I'm sure there are lots of really great options in that HP range.

450s Hmmmm, It would fly. 40 knots aint so bad. Might need trolling valves! Captain Larry Wren 305-360-4900 www.apirateschoice.com

Larry, I am sure the guys at Merritt would be helpful. They would likely give you a real clear idea as to what to expect with your different engine options as well as answer the countless other questions you will come up with as you take on the job. Robert

I have taken on the job! Paid for the boat today and am keeping my 33 Bertram also for now! I will call Merritt as they did the glass work and transom work for the previous owner. The guy put about 100k into the hull alone! To bad he had to sell and I was surprised when he accepted my low ball offer. Not to knock a Bertram but Merritt started the whole thing and they have been copied by all the rest. I do know some of the Merritt engineers went to Norseman for short time. I am exacted as I have a very special piece of sport fishing history. I have been told two presidents fished on my boat! Her name was and will be "Ocean Fancy". Sorry about the going on but does anyone know if there's a set of Cummings 375 around? Captain Larry Wren 305-360-4900 www.apirateschoice.com [img]http://www.bertram33.com/photogallery/p ... PS the Posts were beat and needed to much work and there still a strange designed hull with some worse problems than just a roll in side to seas. Captain Larry Wren 305-360-4900 www.apirateschoice.com

Larry, When you get the chance post some pics of the Merritt. We are Bertram guys but who does not like a Merritt? I have one of the guys from Merritt coming over to my house this week. Merritts are big bucks but so is any other piece of fine art. While I enjoy looking at fine art, a Merritt is fine art you can raise fish with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merritt_Bo ... gine_Works Robert

Larry, these are on right now and sound pretty good, not C's but they are 370's. Need a few parts but I believe you could get them for less than $10K http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cummins- ... enameZWD1V
