Ideas for modifications

Now that I'm done wiring and motors (well for the most part, I think). I like looking for updates to the interior of my 1972. I often look at boats for sale to see what other B35 owners have done but yesterday I stumbled on this one, looks like the Ausie verion. It says it's a 37 but is very close to our B35. Interesting. From most angles it looks like a 35 Bert, but from one or two (plus the line drawing) it looks like a 37. That's not surprising since both were David Napier designs and are essentially the same hull (beam & deadrise are the same plus they both have the stubby keel). I like the way the salon sofa flips up to a set of bunks. I've been trying to figure out how to do something similar to my boat since the pull out isn't very comfortable and takes up so much room.

I like the layout of the galley it looks very nice. It does look like a 35 but to fit all that stuff in the cabin it must be a 37. Buzz

Looks like a Caribbean 35. They used a 35B mold and did what you see to the interior. The cockpit is a 35B. The salon is really short to allow the galley down and the bunks. I think they are counting the pulpit into the 37 feet. There was a southern cross builder that went tits up years ago. Call the broker and see if they have a clue.

Nice boat. It's interesting that the full specs state that it has QSB 330's when in fact it has the mechanical 330's.

I've wondered too about the lenght, it just looks too much like a B35 unless it was streched?? I may give the broker a call about getting some higher resolution pictures. The sunken galle would be over my water tank but don't think I could do it. What I really like is the clear shower-wall in the head and the sofa that lifts to make bunks in the salon. I don't think I like the table/booth, as the one thing we really like about our B35 is the short counter on port side and open feel. -John

That is a caribbean 35, and one of the most popular boats of its size ever made in Australia, there is always a waiting list to buy a new one, It first started off in the late sixties early seventies here as a Bertram 35 made under license by International Marine, Australia's largest pleasure boat manufacturer, making Bertram 20s, 25s 28s 35s 42s, When Bertram went broke in the early nineties and was taken over by Ferritti, International Marine no longer could use the Bertram name and changed to Caribbean. International Marine now makes up dated models of the Caribbean range which include a new 20, 25 which is now a 26, has discontiued the 28 but introduced a new 32, the updated 35 a new 40 and 45 all still based on the original deep v bertram hull. I bought a Bertram 33 sportfisher made in the US and shipped it here at a huge expense because this model was not made in Australia but believe it was the best model Bertram ever produced. I am stll amazed at how many people remark on my boat in the 2 years it has been here. Aussie Syd

Thanks John, that is the coolest set-up I have seem. All he did was move the galley down. That really frees up the salon for almost anything. On my boat I would have to give up the day bed and the hanging lockers. I don't care about the day bed; but the lockers hold a lot of stuff, including all my tuna trolling stuff. Pepper another 35B has the entire galley ripped out and replaced by bench seating. They have a little microwave and that's it. All they do is fish offshore just about everyday!

It looks like you could fairly easily add a second stateroom if you wanted to do more family cruising. Of course you'd have to leave the galley in the salon. Honestly, if the 35 had come with a second stateroom I probably would've gone that way.

I really like the galley down arrangement.. it leaves the main cabin much more open and gives you room for more seating or a fold out bunk. Neat layout and a pretty boat!

I believe I like the galley up better with the second stateroom. We really don't use the gallery anyway. Buzz

I agree Buzz. I think the salon is alreayd big enough. Plus, with the galley up my wife always feels as though she's part of the crowd, even if people are in the cockpit.

Having fished many a day on a friend's 35 and it is a great boat but I thought the interior had a lot of wasted space. I like the layout of our 33 FBC better than the 35's interior. I would like to have a 33 FBC interior and add 2 feet to the cockpit making it a 35' boat. For my use this would be a great boat. Buzz
