settle argument with wife

hi guys no mechanical question here but i would like to settle SILLY argument with MY CHARMING BRIDE in the 33fbc do most of you in the foward birth sleep a) with the center board on or off? b) do you sleep with your head towrds the bow and feet to stern or the other way around? I told you its a STUPID question.. BTW kohler is coming in the am to take a look at my genny situation, i will keep you informed..Thanx Pete

I assume the purpose of the filler cushion was to make a larger bed. While it does make the berth larger, it also makes it nearly impossible to get out of the v-berth. The Queen is only 5 foot 1. We tried it a few times when we first got the boat but took it home soon after. When Bill Dunlop got his first 33 a few years later we donated it to him, but I don't think they use it anymore either. I'm sure if you look in any decent boating mag you can find a company that will make you fitted sheets. We just bought 2 sets of high quality twins sheets (i.e. very high thread count). They work perfectly, and the cost was minimal when compared to having a custom set made.

your right i had the filler on last weekend and the dumb board slipped off and MAN what a sight me going down at 3 am i will admit it was funny even though i got killed . We had been sleeping that way and used a little step stool to get upbut getting up in the middle of the night was a bitch.. I will try the twin sheets and go from ther . As always thanx a bunch for your info and back to my genny worries for now thanx... Pete

Peter, Don't know what year your boat is. On the older ones like my 78 without the second cabin, the berth is set lower down into the vee. Even the vertically challenged would be able to climb in without a step. We sleep with the cushion in & heads fwd. We also took that stupid door out as there is just the two of us. Al

Peter, It's not a dumb question at all. I have a SF model but they are probably the same in size. My wife and I have the same issue but for some reason my boat did not come with a filler so I did the following. 1. Made a 3/4" marine plywood base that filled about 1/2 the available space with the edges following the length of the bed to each side of the base. That way the filler board can not fall out no matter what you do to it. 2. Cut a dense piece of foam to match the level of the existing bed. 3. Had a company from Milton, WI make what they call a Tufted Topper. (www.tuftedtopper.com) 4. At the same time had them custom make a bottom and top set of fitted sheets. 5. My wife made a custom quilted cover that matches the decor of the space. We sleep at an angle. Head at foward port side to feet angled to strarboard. With the custom fitted topper, sheets and cover the bed is easy to make up and the space is always squared away. We also removed the cabin door since it takes up so much space and was always in the way. I sleep in the V-birth with the dog and the wife sleeps on the fold out bed in the salon. What I hate is the lap lap lap on the water in the chims. Some say it is soothing I find it just annoying. The twin sheet thing works for me.

Good Morning All; We sleep feet forward, and have never had a center cushion. Just a twinsheet or ultra light sleeping for the Admiral and me. It's a hike to get up there, and even I use the step where the cushion would go. Tight Lines, Capt LuLu

On my '90 there was no provision for the filler, and in fact, at one of the rendezvous' Doug noticed that my filler area is curved versus his being straight angles (squared off so to speak). No filler (don't even have one), and feet to bow. I assume that they installed the reading lights where they are for that specific layout. Does everyone have those lights?
