Sounds good. Maybe we can get Frank from Wilmington to join us. Do you keep the boat in Chocowinity so that it's closer to home? Where do you normally fish out of Morehead or the Wanchese area? Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

I have been giant striper fishing twice since I floated the boat. We caught some 40 to 50 lber's.......it was awesome. Off Oregon Inlet. I usually fish off Ocracoke in the summer as it's only 29 miles out to the stream........I would like to meet Frank as well. Chocowinity is only about 25 mins from my house so I can go down in the evenings and go out for a spin. I have never been out of Morehead before fishing........on my boat.
I would really like that! It would be great to get together with you guys.. let me know when is a good time! Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

I put my boat in today and like Grady I put on a pair of Acme Props 22x23.The boat was a little slow getting to go but once it got up on plane it took off. The numbers with the tide and no wind were 2000 rpms-19kts 2400 rpms 25 kts 2600 rpms-27 kts WOT 2950 rpms-33 kts Going against the tide I lost a knot on each number.I am very exited about the speed and how well the boat handled at 27kts. Since repowering I would do 20kts at 2600rpms with 21x19 props.26 knots at WOT 3000 rpms. What a difference the ACME pros made.I picked up 7 kts at 2600 but now I can cruise at 2400 which sounds like the engines are hardly turning. With the Acme props there is no vibration,my engine run 8 degrees less than they used to plus I only lost 50 rpm off the top.
Doug I do have 370s which are rated for 3000rpms. My old props would turn just over 3000 on the stbd and just under 3000 on the port.I now turn 2950 on both which I am not sure if that puts me into an overload situation. In neutral the engines rev up to 3200. The engines burned clean no smoke whatsoever Michael 33SF

You don't want to operate them very long like that if you can't turn minimum RPM's... overstresses the engines "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL

Two people posting at the same time again... Before you decide to make any changes, verify what you are really turning with a photo tach. Don't believe your gauges for that precise a measurement "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL

Sorry. I did mean over-propped (since fixed). That's what I get for trying to listen to someone on the phone talking about work and typing here at the same time. The max rated rpm's per Cummins spec sheets is 3000rpms (it's OK to be over, in fact it's better). I'd prop for at least 3050-3100 if I were you. Unfortunately, that means dropping some cup and losing some of your new found speed. Even if the motors aren't smoking, you're still over-loading them as right now you're not even at the Cummins minimum. Sorry to piss in your cheerios, but the downside is running the engines into an early grave. Of course, all this assumes your tachs are correct. I would verify with a digital tach. Who knows, you're tachs may be off and maybe you're really hitting 3050+rpms?

Michael, I just did a quick search through boat diesel and it appears your no-load (i.e. neutral) wide open throttle may be too low. I saw numbers as high as 3400rpms. If I were you, I'd get on over to boatdiesel.com and ask Tony Athen what he thinks the WOT no-load should be for a 370B. If he says 3300-3400rpms, you may be all set with your current setup. You'd only need to bump up the throttle stop on the motors and confirm your rpms to your tachs.

Hey Michael, I agree with Doug about overpropping. Remember that you just dropped the boat in right? Is the bottom perfect now? How about a month or two from now once it starts to get buildup and drag a bit. My Cummins guys wanted at least 3050 rpm's and wouldn't let me think about tweaking for more speed when I initially got 3150 rpm's out of them. They said you will load the boat with a bunch of people and the bottom is now fresh. I hit 31.5 kts this weekend so the speed has dropped a bit. I touched the bottom at anchor and that could account for a bit of it......as well as the bottom not being brand new. My 22 x 22's make it jump out of the water. I would consider depitching just a bit to free them up. You need to turn at least 3000...........to make them last. I may try and add a bit of pitch later but for now I am happy. Grady
