FUEL

Post by sbeer »

I'm starting to explode here, gas at the dock 3.95, diesel at 4.09. What in the h.e.ll. is going on. I may be able to take the boat to the end of the dock this year, by pushing it along the way.

Well I guess we're lucky in NC. We don't have to pay the road tax on non road used diesel fuel. So it's still cheaper than gas on the water. Wonder how long before the politicians change this in NC. I haven't bought fuel recently so I don't know what they are charging at the fuel dock. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

We don't pay road tax on diesel fuel in NJ either but the end of last year they took out I believe is the sulfer additive out of diesel fuel and put in a different additive to save us from global warming. I am going to have to put 10 people on the boat for an offshore trip to split up the cost of fuel! Michael 33SF

I am thinking of installing another home heating oil fuel tank. Some dealers still are selling two different stocks. Don't know how long that will last. I was getting both home heating oil and boat diesel for $2.65 a gallon. In a month or so I will find out what they want for boat diesel. My current contract is for $2.65. Charlie

I was just reading the same numbers. CRAZY. Offshore trip, 200 gallons of fuel - over 800 bucks - thats crazy. A few of my guys were talking and we might have to leave the dock Friday afternoon, stay until Sunday - or full of fish. That way we get our moneys worth. But its getting to damn expensive/

About 3 weeks ago I was speaking to a marina owner here in Wilmington, NC.. diesel was $3.55 and gas was $3.95 a gallon. Not sure what it is today, because regular gas at the local station has been bouncing between $3.20 and $3.53 a gallon. There is one station nearby that advertises that they sell "Off-road diesel fuel" but I haven't priced it lately. I have about 8 gerry cans for gas (for my emergency generator).. I might start carrying a couple empty in my truck and picking up 10 gal every time I pass the place. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

A freind of mine suggested this to me Gas Price War Please read the following: ================== THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON. This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from o ne of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas . It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, d on't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers . If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends e ach, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potenti al, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK. Keep it going

I haven't bought gas from Exxon/Mobil for over 3 years for that very same reason...saw it in an email back then. So it's not working ! But the logic is sound. One benefit is that I have found that burning the absolute cheapest gas I can find doesn't make any difference in the car's performance. I've put 230K miles on and still have the original fuel injected engine. So I'm not nervous about 'cleaning additives' and whatever marketing terms they come up with. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

As long as the price of crude is controlled by the Arabs who hate us, and the Indians and Chinese are increasing their demand for fuel at su8ch a rapid rate, I don't think any boycotts in this country will halp. What I do think will help is for us to drill more wells, off Florida, in Alaska, wherever we have a known source of crude oil. And we haven't built a new refinery is how long? Thirty years or so. I know I don't want a drilling platform under my nose, but I would accept one before I would let the freaking Arabs tell me how to live my life! Cuba is going to drill off of Forida and Mexico will be drilling deep water wells in the Gulf but that is a no no for our oil producers. Soon we will be buying some more oil from corrupt governments when it is coming right from our back yard. Michael 33SF

They will not let them drill for oil off of Florida because they might be an oil spill instead Cuba will drill and they will get the oil. If there is a spill we still have to deal with it but don't get the oil. They can't even drill for natural gas off of NC. Go figure. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

A major contibutor to the problem is the fact that due to gov regulations we have not built any new or expanded capabilty with US based refinerys in over 20 years. It will always be a supply and demand issue. We are now paying over $7.00 per gallon for Jet A in some US locations. Jet A is similar to kerosen (refined less than gas) and the aircraft I currently fly burns 350 gallons per hour. The cost of Jet A in Mexico is $2.50 per gallon. Cliff Schultz 33SF

I can see diesel being $5.00 a gallon this summer at some of the high end marinas like Nantucket. It looks like I'll be changing the way I usually boat this summer by taking one less, week long vacation this summer. Usually we take 2 long trips. Marinas are also going up a buck or two a foot every year. It's turning out to be a blessing that we only get to use our boats 5 months a year up North. I don't think I could afford to run it year round. It's getting to the point that even if I could afford 5 dollars a gallon for fuel, I would rather give up boating then pay such an absurd amount. Theres always golf...and I use to think that was expensive! Bill 1989 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~-------
