fast rails

Post by Crabby »

I have a 1980 35 Bert and was wondering if anyone has installed fast rails from the stern forward and if they increased speed and planed out quicker as stated by company. Also if installed on bow did it cut down on spray? Thanks

If you search the site there was some talk awhile back. I think Ed O had done some research. From what i have read they seem like a good idea on the stern. Do you get spray on the 35 because the 33FBC gets very little spray and is very dry.

thanks for the reply. From what I read on the fast rail website it sounds great---just wondering if it really works in real life. Also the 35 has a lower bow than the 33 and in rough seas can get a fair amount of spray

I have talked to some people that have added them to their boats and they claimed they worked. But it wasn't on Bertrams. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bejrtram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

Did they help get on plane and cut down on the roll or keep the spray down. I am mainly interested in quicker planing and less roll. Also I went back and found Ed O posts but never foung out if he went and put them on or not. Crabby

The guys I've talked to claimed it really helped keep the spray down and gave them a little more speed. I've never heard anyone say anything about less roll. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

I would not bother putting up front. The 35B has lots more bow flair then the 33B. I get very little spray and only in rough conditions when nothing would work. Now rails from mid-ships back works very nicely. I know one 35B "Pepper" that is pretty tricked out. He has rails, but they are not crappy smart rails. I believe he got them from Hamilton. They are not just glued on; but bolted and faired. They look like the reverse chimes on the 31B. Reverse chimes will help with roll on the drift. Charlie

Hamilton Marine: http://www.hamiltonmarine.com/t1.html I would be worried about anything that is only glued to the side of the hull. One of their major dealers in Ft. Lauderdale told me that they come off, and for that reason he dosn't recommend them. That from the guy seling them! If they worked but the only problem was them coming off, couldn't they be through bolted somehow? Maybe glued and then bolted where it was easy to get inside access? Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Unfortunately no - I just know their website, having bought other things from them. Perhaps Charlie can tell us exactly what his friend bought Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com
