30 Amp Plug Replacement question

Post by bsmart »

I have a 30Amp Plug that needs to be replaced on my 86 33SF... Has anyone done this? I just want to confirm that I will need to remove the "Box" that housing the entire assembly (the Marinco Plug and cover seem to be bolted and the bolts free spin)...When I attempted this last weekend it seemed that that "box" was bedded in with some type of caulk.... any help would be appreciated.

Bob.. I replaced both of the 30 amp receptacle (actually you are correct in that they are plugs) boxes on the stbd side of the cockpit.. bought them from High Tide. Bought the receptacles locally though. As I recall there was some bedding beneath the old boxes, but they pried off with no problem. I suspect the bolts that hold the breaker in the box have nuts that are spinning when you turn the bolt from the front. I also bought new breakers from High Tide because they are a different case size from those I could find locally, and one of mine was messed up by someone before I bought the boat. BTW.. I also bought two of the flexible plastic windows that cover the breaker handles.. figured I might as well replace everything. Just be sure to note the positions and colors of the old wires so when you install new breakers (if you go that far) that you don't mess up the polarity! I did one last year. Also replaced the breaker and plastic breaker cover. Easy job. Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com

I e-mailed you the info on the protective boot, did you get it? I looked but couldn't find the receipt for the breaker, so I'm not sure where I got it. I know I took it out and ordered the new one based on the model number right off the old breaker, suggest you do the same.
