Thanks Syd, I never even thought of looking for it because I've never been impressed with any cockpit matting before. But this looks nice and I'll take a look at the next boat show. Enjoy it, looks like you're ready for fishing. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

Gege, Thanks for the information on the Yanmar site, I did post some information and photos on the Engine installation, hull repairs and bilge work while the boat was still in the US, You will find this in the Bertram General section under "The Austalian Connection" dated 25th May 2006. If you would like anything else please let me know and I can post some further pics. Regds Syd Ps Can any one tell me what is actually written above and under the switches on the starboard side of the instrument panel mine have faded out and can no longer be read, Thanks

Syd, If you look at page 7 of my re-power thread you will see a pretty clear pic of how the switches are labeled. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

The stb panel may not be standardized. Once again on my older Bert, that panel is different. Al

All the later model boats are the same. I.E. Rick's 85, my 86, Frank's 87, Bill's 88 & 89 all have the same setup from Bertram. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Syd, Awesome job and congratulations! Your patience and thoroughness will be worth it for years to come. If you have pictures of your deck drainage system, I'd love to see them. Must be the best looking boat on the pier now! Carpe Diem!!! Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Thanks Brian, good to hear from you, I did try to e-mail you some time ago, have you changed some of your details that you were telling me about? I will take some photos over the next week or so, I think there are some problems with this site posting photo's at present once thats been fixed I can do it. I had hoped by eliminating all the deck water from entering the bilge this would keep all the boat nice and dry inside, but I am finding rain water is still entering thru some other way which I have still not found. I think its a case of going thru each section at a time unless you are aware of other possablities,I did have a a big problen with my front windows leaking but that is now resolved, maybe some one else on this site may kmow or provide some help hints , although I do think the boat was designed to have a wet bidge considering the amount of automatic bilge pumps in the boat.ButI do just like a nice dry boat. Keep in touch, Syd

Syd, Tracing incoming rainwater has to be a pest. Is the water getting into the forward bilge or aft bilge? You can reach me at my personal email with pictures if you get the chance. I think Tim got part of it. If it blows real hard, rain water will actually run into the vent scoops. During Hurricane's I plug mine up. If you get it in the rod holders, it will eventually find a way to run into the bilge too. Plus in a torential downpour, I'll get some in the rope locker running downhill on the deck. Well thanks guys I think your on the money, I closed in the air take vents on the deck and covered in the anchor winch, block off each bulk head where the bilge drain system goes thru the boat to see which compartment gets most of the rain water, then got a heavy down pour and hey presto virtually no rain water in the boat. My plan had always been to remove the air vents from the deck and fit side hull vents , very difficult to buy off the shelf to suit our style of boat due to the gunnel line and the small compartment area available above the engine hatches,I think I'll make them in fibreglass to suit, which would then give more walking deck space and eliminate water in the boat by making them self drainning.I think the chain locker could also be self drainning. It never stops does it ? Regds Syd

Syd... You might get some useful info on hull side mounted air intakes from the Bertram 31 forum.. the moderator, CaptPatrick, has designed and sells several items specifically for the B31 hulls, including as I recall two versions of side mounted intakes. That site's search function is not working at this moment, so I was unable to get a link for you, but I suspect if you go there (www.bertram31.com) and post a request to him he can lead you in the right direction. As I recall there are some standards as to how many square inches of free opening you need per horsepower, etc. There were some pics as well. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC
