David, Those kind of numbers are for you rich Californians. I'm planning to do it myself and spend about 600 bucks. Actually I wish I could afford to have someone do it for me but if I had 6 large to spend on the boat right now, I'd probably look at upgrading the electronics. I'll keep tabs on the total cost but I really am figuring to buy three sheets of plywood at $175, some adhesive, some teak trim, epoxy and eurethane, etc. I still have to have the bottom stripped so I need to watch my pennies. 6k seems like way too much even if you are paying someone.after all the interior floor is only about 100 square feet so that is $60 per square foot.I would think 2k would be more like it....unless you are doing the cockpit too... Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC

At 6 Gs, I figured, that ain't going to happen any time soon. There is a really long list of "before that" items that need tending to, most notably, a haul out so I can have bottom painted, and repairs to my swim step brackets so I can put it back on. Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC My guy told me that he figured the materials alone would be about $2K. He is pretty reasonable on most things too. He started on boats, but is now a custom cabinet maker. Anyway, the area is the salon, the steps down from the salon and the entry to the berth. Is that the area you guys are thinking about, or are you just talking about the flat area of the salon. He said, alot of the complicated work would be around the step down to the salon. Either way, I don't think I will be doing it soon, but I would get a second and third opinion anyway. David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

David, I'm planning to do it all, I've removed all the carpet.I had a thought after reading your post. Since our boats are the same, I wonder how different they'd be if ,say I made patterns and had you check them against your boat. I know that by the time our boats were made they were using patterns for everything on the boat and we might find that they're close enough for me to make two of everything? For that matter, if the boats are accurate enough, couldn't I just make up flooring for all '86 and up sportfishers and market it? I know that the floor itself is molded fiberglass so it will be perfect, the only problem might be the wall and door for the head and the forward berth. What are your thoughts? Anyone else? One more thig, David,Your guy may be quoting for planking. The plywood is not as tough but would be the slightly more practical way to go. I fiqured the planking to be about $1200 by itself and then a bunch of labor to install, so modified the plan for plywood. Frank

Right Frank, he was definitely talking about doing planking. Real A grade stuff. As for the templates, sounds good to me. I need to take some photos for the interior and email them to you, and you can see what you need for your answer. I'll try to get them next week. David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

Frank Tim & David; Two years ago I replaced the old carpet with teak/holly flooring, not stained, laminated in shapes on the salon/galley area only. Kept carpet on stairs, head and berths. Each section has flush lifting handles allowing expedite access to Cats for repairs and maintenance. Paid 4k in Miami for it. Installed 1" insulation under each section without sigificant difference in noise when cruising compared to carpet. Has required no maintenance other than water & soap. If you wish will e-mail pictures. Regards Jose Jaen "Blue Chip" 1993 33FBC Miami FL

Hey Guys, Just to throw something else into the mix, how about a bamboo floor? I came across this link when I was considering other than carpeting. I had read a discussion on another forum & the respondents were very impressed by this product as well as a cork floor. You can Google up cork flooring for more info on that. http://www.tapeease.com/bamboo_flooring.htm Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

Al, David may be interested in bamboo but I think I've made my decision.Looks like good stuff though. David, I'm sure our boats are alike enough that we couldn't tell much by a picture, although it couldn't hurt to see some. I think what I'll do is once I get all the patterns made, transfer them to a white poster board and then I can send them to you to check against your interior for an exact fit, you then can make any minor changes to fit your boat and then if you want, your guy could even work from them , saving a bunch of time. Or I could do two sets, one for you but the shipping of the finished pieces could be expensive. Let me get the patterns and we'll go from there. If the weather co-operates A LITTLE it should take me a couple weeks. Jose Jaen, If you can post the pics here I'm sure a lot of guys could benefit from seeing them. In light of the cost, you must have also gone with the planks? I wouldn't mind seeing what they did with the edging around the hatch and at the step. Frank Price '87 SF

David, Is your guy in S.D? Can I get his # from you. Maybe he will tackle my floors? I'll try him out for us. I have been looking for the right person for about 4 months. Thanks Cazadores II

I would not put bamboo in my boat. I have seen many houses with it and it is absolutly beautiful, but it scratches very easy.I have cork in a room in my house and i love it..it might not be a bad choice for a boat.it is soft so it would not be as durable as teak but it deadens the sound real well and its cork so it hollds up to water well. jose if you can post pix that would be great Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC

I hate to be nit-picky, but can we change the title of this topic to either "Teak Deck" or "Teak Sole". I hate seeing the word floor being associated with a boat. There are no floors on boats. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth
