Hi All, Looks like a good subject to jump on as I am searching for a 33FBC up here in Plymouth Ma. Great Info on this site!I looked at one last weekend with a pair of cat 3208 in her up on the North Shore. Are any of you familar with this boat? Also are they rollers at anchor, most of my boating will be between Onset and the Vinyard where the southwesterly winds are non stop. Brian

Brian, Welcome to the site. I am assuming that this is the boat you're looking at: http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/ ... =1387&url= Although the price looks like its been dropped again, this boat has been for sale for about 3 years. I don't think it reflects badly on the boat mind you, just that the owner/broker had it over-priced. If my memory serves, I think that boat was orginally listed for $139K. Looking at the equipment list, I don't see anything special. The electronics (while probably very servicable) are old and it doesn't appear to have radar. 1150 hours aren't very many, but the boat will be a 18-19 knot boat (maybe 20 knots on a good day) with the Cats as they are very heavy with relatively low HP. How did the boat look? Was it clean? As far as rolling at anchor, it is a deep-v (though with less deadrise than a 28 or 31 with significantly more beam), so it does roll some. Also, the FBC has a higher center of gravity than the SF's since its a foot taller. That being said, at anchor the boat will swing into any seas and ride very comfortably. At drift it will roll. Not gonna lie to ya, she loooooooooooooooooves to roll, but that's just one trade off on a boat that has many other quality features. Maybe the rolling will be less with all that weight in the bilge. I'm anxious to find out myself, since I am going from gassers to diesel this winter. Bill 1988 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~-------

Doug, Bill, Yes thats the boat. It kind of has the abandoned look to it and it's not covered/wrapped. With the storm and ice last night sure can't help its condition. Clean bilge and fairly clean motors. In need of a large infusion of $$$ I'd say. I think by the time I'm done updating at the current asking price I'd be up near 130k with the low horse Cats I"m getting conflicting opinions on the engines, some say a good motor and I some say lower end problems. It looks like it had good care at one point but has been let go for the last few years. The rear bulkhead on the port side inside has some rot and water damage. Possibly coming from the fly bridge or window. I couldn't get the frozen hatch open to look at gennie. We are going to look at a gas 33 tomorrow. I called a shop in RI today about converting to diesel got a price of $80 k for Yannmars without the gennie. (ouch) Have not given up on the diesel one quite yet though. Would have to wait till spring now to see what kind of havoc the storm caused. Can you guys recommend anyone with Cats that I can talk to about service? Thanks Brian

Brian, If nothing else, the Cats are pretty much bullet proof and will give many more hours at that hp rating (probably a minimum of 3K more hours). Also, let your offer reflect what you think needs to be done and offer him $90K. The worst that'll happen is he'll say no. Which gas boats? 11 out of 10?? Most brokers will lie about a boats condition, but that's a little ridiculous. I hope you call him on it when your on the boat with him if it's a 5. The best way to get back at him is to make an offer 40% less then the asking price. The expression on their face is great. Bill, Doug, Boat was real clean and had a recent survey. Name of the boat is Top Notch and the survey said it is all that. Needs to be updated, looks just as it did when she was first splashed. An 8 out of 10 for sure. Not the boat for us though...We will keep looking. Really want a diesel

Brian, What is your price rannge? http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/ ... 24664&url= I know this is a South Carolina boat, but it seems like a good deal on a reecent re-power. That boat is a 10 for sure and it is more than we can afford. I'm not sure we can purchase a Bertram in decent shape on our budget. We have started looking a little at other brands,Blackfin for one. Not set up like the Bert but it may be the only thing we can afford. There are a few 32 with diesel in them and a couple of 29. It looks like you need 130K for a well equip Bert.Plenty of time to look though...I feel it is still a buyers maket at this point.
Brian 1985 Bertram 42 SF Cummins QSC 600 HP Seahorse Ellisville Harbor, Ma
Brian, As you said, its a buyers market. Just because he's asking $145K, doesn't necessarily mean he might not take $130K or $135K. This boat looks like its already got what most of us would want, or are striving to.
